Hi Magpie, certainly Garuda ought to be considered if they keep their pricing at attractive levels. Very pleased that you enjoyed my TR.

I just love your TR sighing - big tick and elephant stamp young fella - Garuda had some fabulous specials in 2012 and I was desperate to try one to PEK or PVG but unfortunately the stars never aligned - hopefully 2013 I will get over the line.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the TR Cruiser. If you do get to try 'em out, let us know if you agree with my assessment please!

Thanks for the TR. Our company has a JV in Jakarta and we often have guys flying over there. I have always said that I would never fly Garuda however after this TR I may change my mind.

Hi amaroo. Remarkably, both long haul flights featured lie flat seats. The seats remind me a lot of the QF A380 skybed "shell seats". The difference was in the way the IFE hardware was deployed and on the return flight this difference did make the cabin feel a little more "dated" than the first flight. It certainly didn't affect our capacity to sleep though. If I had a preference it would be for the fresher looking outbound flight with the bigger screens on the back of the seat in front of you.

I managed to find a picture that shows the lie flat position - sorry it's not a brilliant example but it gives you a taste!

Great TR. I've heard nothing but good things about GA the last few years considering the awful reputation Indonesian aviation has.

Your son looks very content!

I'm glad you enjoyed the TR - thank you. You're right, my son loves the whole flying experience almost as much as his old man.

Nice to hear good reports on Garuda moving on from the past.

Flown a bit with them over the years and have enjoyed watching them go from strength to strength.

Nice TR. the seats on your first flight look very similar to QR's offering - which can't be bad!

I must say I am surprised by the report. It seems like they are going in the right direction.

They have been having a lot of input from Lufthansa for many years. Upgrading an airline let alone a culture does indeed take some effort.

My only issue would be pilot training and continuous assessment. They use to employ westerners (Aussies) to mix it up a bit, not sure on the stats these days since returning back to Aus.

Loved the TR. thanks for making such a good job of it. Can only echo other posts, that it opens my eyes to the Garuda option.

Thanks for taking the time to do this TR. Good job.

Great TR and the photos say a thousand words. A friend often travels to AMS for business and has used GA on two occasions thus far in executive class, loves the value for money and has booked two more flights with them. Again, thanks for taking the time.

Agree - good TR and opened my eyes about the Garuda option, I know they were improving since 2009 but there is the evidence for that story in your TR, for what you pay it starts to look very very good value to me. I think some people will have to seriously reconsider their "no fly" or safety based policy eventually if things continue to go well at Garuda in terms of safety/reliability and competetivness - especially since operators like Air France continue to fly around the world without many questions.

Partner and I flew on them Exec class last October to AMS, then again a few weeks ago to Bali, once again Exec.
You really can't fault the service, and the amount of food they keep offering is embarrassing.
We're looking forward to using them to LGW when that starts. We've grown rather fond of them ....

Thanks for all the positive feedback on my TR. This thread is beginning to sound like an advertisement for Garuda - should I point out I am in no way associated with the Airline??? :)

Also, it is somewhat reassuring to hear that Garuda are/were following guidelines from Lufthansa. We've flow with them on a few occasions and have always been very impressed with the German efficiency.

Cheers,
Sigh

Very curious now about Garuda, the pics are good. I must admit I had never even considered looking at them, think its time I broadened my horizons outside my little "One World" handcuffs.
Thankyou for sharing :)

You are very welcome. FWIW, the trip earned us just under 15,000 GFF points each, though I'm not yet sure what we can spend this on!
