Hi everyone
Is anyone able to tell me if there is a lounge at frankfurt airport that you can access on a pay per visit arrangement. We have a 10 hour stopover and qantas have advised us that our qantas invitation passes will probably not be excepted as it is a Cathay Lounge (even though we are flying Qantas).

Thanks
Nat

and even if the lounge did accept the passes, it is only open for QF passengers about 3 hours before scheduled departure, so not going to help for a 10 hour layover.

Why not leave the airport and have a look around down-town Frankfurt. Its not a bad city to walk around and there are plenty of good restaurants. On weekends the riverside markets can be interesting.

There aren't any lounges that I can think of that'll be of any use to you. There are a couple of options for day lets for hotels that'll at least give you a place to crash.

The Sheraton at the FRA does day lets, but isn't cheap. The other options are the NH Hotel just off site, but with a free shuttle, Hotel reservations, find and book hotels NH: Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam…, or the InterCity Hotel, which also has a free shuttle, and is the cheapest option. InterCityHotel Frankfurt Airport. It's pretty basic, but clean and convenient.

If you do book at the Sheraton, book on the club level so you can have access to the lounge, the food is very good and the selection of drinks is also pretty good. If you book at the cheaper options, and if budget is an issue, there's a little supermarket in terminal One, I think on Level 1 at the far right of the terminal as you look airside.

I spend far too much time hanging out at FRA!

We were in Frankfurt on Boxing Day. If you land at Terminal 2 it hosts a number of lounges. CX lounge is on the right after you come up the escalators from the gates. If you proceed left, a liitle way down on the right there is a JAL lounge (which seems to only open just before flights) and just past that, in the corner, is a Delta Lounge which seems to be affiliated with just about everyone. We were flying LAN to Santiago and were able to use this lounge. You may be able to get in here with Priority Pass or Amex Platinum etc. If you are a Qantas Club member, there is a BA lounge downstairs (just follow the signs) that is reasonably comfortable (although the Delta is much better). If you're bored, catch the monorail over to Terminal 1 - there are myriads of shops over there and there is a ingenious system for keeping you airside on the train and not having to go through security again. The train opens one side for transit passenegers and the other for people entering the terminal from outside. Exits similarly allow you to enter the Terminal 1 and 2 buildings without security. Great system.

G'day mww99, welcome to AFF. :D

Thanks for the information, especially about the train.

This is a bit late I know but the info above is misleading. We travelled from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 via Skyline to get to the Sky Club Lounge. The lounge was awful, no food, no internet although a great place to get drunk if you wanted. We left after 30 mins to look for food and 5 security checkpoints later, we arrived back at Terminal 1 via the "great" Skyline train system 1 hour later. If anyone else is reading the reviews for the Sky Club Lounge in Frankfurt, don't waste your time or money.

Livewire - I dont understand your claims about the post that you found misleading. Are you able to elaborate?

SPRUCE

Well the fact that I had to go through 5 more security checkpoints to get back to Terminal 1 contradicts what was said about not having to go back through security if you use the Skyline system.

Livewire, obviously things have changed since Boxing day 2007. Terminal 2 had only just opened at that time and we flew LHR-FRA on BA and FRA-MAD-SCL on LAN. We were merely transiting FRA and we deplaned at Term.2. There was not much open in that terminal and we were able to go over to Terminal 1 and back without going through security at all in FRA. At the time, we thought it was an ingenious system for transiting passengers with doors on alternate carriages opening on different sides to allow those passengers to stay airside. One can only surmise that things have changed since then. Pity, because it was wonderful.
