There have been stories about the unclaimed money site around today. Out of interest I looked up my own name and found that a small amount was sitting there for me! A liquidator dividend from SOUTHERN CROSS AIRLINES HOLDINGS which I'd have to assume was Compass. They went belly up in December 1991 stranding me in Brisbane headed to Sydney for a wedding. I had a return ticket worth about $200 and didn't get to fly a leg of it. I did put in a claim a way back then but was advised I had Buckley's of ever seeing a cent.

Whatta ya know??

I got a reasonable 30c in the dollar. Must put my claim in...

I vaguely remember the day it went bust. Took mum to the airport to fly to Melbourne and when I got home, my sister was phoning the house to ask what airline mum was on (Qantas) .

Back before mobile phones and when we had a house phone. Had car phones back then but about $3K, so out of my price range.

thanks for the post - i found i had some money owing from some old shares that i thought were worthless but seemed to have had a buyout a decade after they crashed during ther GFC!

Pity I can't get anything back on my AN points :(

If you had a booking at the time did you get a payment? I was unaffected by the Ansett crash, thankfully.

No luckily didn't lose any significant money - had no bookings at the time. Lost 2 months of Golden Wing membership, ~600K points and had just qualified for Platinum tho :(

Maybe there should be a "lost FF points" site...

i was in a similar situation - 800k points gone over night

I had a ticket for Compass' first-flight out of SYD after they went bust. I recall getting interviewed by ABC TV. Australian Airlines (I think) rescued me by taking my return ticket and flying me onward to BNE, charging me $75 for the return BNE-SYD leg. With a successful charge-back claim from Mastercard, I actually ended up saving $10 on the whole deal ! :p

Kudos to Ansett and Australian Airlines at the time - they sold tickets at the same price as Compass was selling them even though they could have jacked them straight back up to pre-Compass levels. Probably didn't take long to realise the opportunity.

From memory I bought a BNE-SYD return ticket at the airport at the time of flying for around $200.
