Hey guys, my wife isn't an Australian resident/citizen. We're in the 2 year transition from temporary to permanent visa (Free movement with her current Australian visa). We're hoping to head to the states at the end of this year and she has to apply for a visa. I understand that there are countries that require the the applicant to apply in their home country, but I don't think the US is that strict with their rules and instead they want strong ties to their current residing country. Has anyone had a similar situation?

12 years ago I was in the exactly same situation, applied here in the Sydney US Consulate. No problems at all. If she resides in Australia (and I understand she does, on a temporary resident visa! still a resident), that's where she must apply

Thanks. Is there anything outstanding she should bring? We have tickets/bank statements/aus visa/employment contracts anything else that could be of help?

Can't really tell you as it was 12 years ago, things may have changed
i would look at the information on the US Consulate website, they probably list all the things. They were quite friendly and the view from the MLC office was spectacular :p

Should have no troubles applying for the visa. As sergeyvzn has said, follow the procedure on the relevant US consulate website and bring required documentation at time of interview. Easy.
