Hello,

I have recently started a job that will require me to fly within Australia quite a lot on Virgin Australia. They asked for a frequent flyer number and I said I had an Etihad Guest one which partners with Virgin. I was advised to get Velocity Membership.

I will be flown economy, and as far as I can see, both earn .5 points per mile. I have never really taken advantage of any frequent flyer programs before so having a little difficulty determining what's best for me. I can't see any differenece between gaining the points on Velocity or Etihad Guest, except I don't think I can upgrade my Virgin flights with Etihad Guest points.

I am from Europe and I probably would end up using these for travelling back home, making me think it would be better to accrue them on Etihad, but I've tried to research and people generally advise accruing Virgin flights on Velocity.

And the fact I can see Etihad Guest is doing triple miles on economy at the moment is making me think I should be using this frequentflyerbonuses.com/guest

Any advice on which of the two I should be using would be much appreciated. I would rarely be flying outside this new regime of flying Virgin within Australia and a flight home once a year

Thanks in advance!

You should try and see how many points you would get under each airline for the flights you would be taking (domestically, virgin earns per $'s not per mile). Then see what an award you would like under both schemes costs in points. Pick the best one for you.

Just be aware EY guest miles expire after two years if that is a factor
