flying to salt lake city

hi. we are looking at flying from sydney to salt lake city, and on the way back to Aus stopping at Hawaii for a week in mid-late september this year. Can anyone give me suggestions what would be the best/easiest/cheapest way to fly sydney - salt lake city - hawaii - sydney. Are there likely to be any deals released that would accommadate these flights ?

Flying to SYD-SLC with OneWorld would be efficiently done as a single stop via the AA hub at Dallas-Fort Worth. Not sure if AA flies DFW-Hawaii, though - it may depend on which Hawaii port you want.

SLC is a major port for Delta, IIRC, so that may give more options.

Those three above will yield very different responses.
The best means private jet.
Easiest also means private jet.
Cheapest will mean stopping at some places where you certainly dont want to stop

Well in all seriousness, Delta will give you some good options, but you may have to backtrack back out of HNL to LAX with them.
Do you have any loyalty program affiliation? i.e. are you biased to a carrier?

HNL to AU is rather limited in nature, so you may be best in booking a couple of point to points, i.e. SYD/HNL/SYD and HNL/SLC/HNL with whoever the cheapest US based airline is (there is potential for bargains to be had in this leg!).

Agree with the above post about via DFW is you want to stick with OW. Otherwise, try South West Airlines from LAX to SLC.

Option One
Check out the specials with Delta SYD/xLAX/SLC/LAX/SYD on a website such as www.jetabroad.com.au so in short, fly SYD to SLC transiting in LAX on the way over then fly SLC back to LAX & stopover. While in LAX you can do a side trip LAX/HNL/LAX then fly LAX/SYD on Delta.

For prices on return flights LAX/HNL/LAX I would have a look at www.priceline.com as it will compare most of the major US airlines then when you find the option that suits you best, make the booking direct on the website of that airline to avoid booking fees by going through a middleman.

Option Two
Call Hawaiian Airlines and ask them for a price for the whole itinerary. They don't fly to SLC but may have an airfare that permits travel to SLC whereby you fly eg Delta between LAX & SLC.

Option Three
Look at a package holiday SYD/HNL/SYD with accommodation in Waikiki for how many nights you want but that also allows you to have 7-10 nights own arrangements when you can fly separately HNL/SLC/HNL - again check the website www.priceline.com to compare fares with all airlines. Alternatively you could just compare SYD/HNL/SYD airfares on www.jetabroad.com.au then book direct on the airline's website & do your accommodation separately.

If you use Jetabroad and try SYD-SLC return with a HNL stopover on the return leg you can find a fare with Virgin/Alaska Airlines for $2100 in Y. It's via LAX (outbound) and SEA (return).

I am flying V Australia to LAX and then Delta to SLC. Seems pretty hassle free to me.
