Hello

Not sure if this is the right area for these q's but here goes

If have recently been given a J fare BNE>SIN>HAN return for Christmas.

i am just trying to work out how many s/c and points i will redeem with virgin... as i can't find any info Singapore airlines and on the virgin site, singapore r not even listed as a partner?

arrh my bad misread that table before

thanks

btw has anyone else had trouble adding their virgin member details to their Singapore air flights mine just keeps saying error 500

You should earn 6480 points and 180 status credits in each direction.

Also yes, the SQ website is .. a bit rubbish. Maybe try calling SQ and see if they can add your Velocity number manually?

Velocity rewards operator told me that velocity points earned while flying SQ can only be redeemed on Virgin metal.

Has anyone any experience with an upgrade at the counter on an SQ flight? I am BNE-SIN SQ256 on 9.1.12 and keen to hear what is the best (read most economical) way to try for an upgrade.
I don't have a KrisFlyer account yet (but may consider if there is seen to be some worth in it). I redeem my Amex points for Travelscene as it is 35% cheaper than redeeming for store gift cards, etc.

My TA added my velocity number to my booking without any problems, he even managed to do it with a typo in my first name, so they don't seem to have a great linkage (or checking online).
SQ will become my new carrier of choice (in Asia at least) is you get twice the SC's than QF(and their partners, which require Y fare bucket for Economy SC's or else you get Discount Economy Sc's (at 50%))

I called SQ to add my velocity number but they told me to add it at the airport. Did so in Singapore. However, I had to clarify that my card was not a virgin Atlantic VS card. Won't know if it's worked until I get the points.

let us know how u go...

I recently flew SQ from Adelaide ot Singapore return, economy. Got around 3400 points each way, which I thought was a little low. Not sure how many status points I got though, only shows points redeemed for the flight and my overall status balance.

Its one mile per point, so its spot on!

Hello All,
I'm new to the AFF:D but find your posts very helpful. Thankyou.
Could I ask if all SQ flights into various Australian ports are eligible to earn Velocity Points?

Yes all SQ flights worldwide can earn velocity points if booked in an eligible booking class. The only exception to this if they are on an SQ code but the flight is operated by another carrier. To/from Australia this would only exclude flights on the SQ code to/from Darwin as these are operated by Silkair.

Thanks so much, appreciated.
Had (mis)read or (mis)interepreted somewhere, that SQ SIN SYD and SIN MEL were excluded
Great, and Cheers, PJ

From what I can see is if the flight will earn SQ miles then it will also earn velocity miles and SCs.

When you're making your booking there' a see fare rules link that will give you the fare class of the booking. After you've made your booking I've not worked out a way to get that info.

I think if you book from flexi saver upwards you will be eligible to earn Velocity points.

Great tip, thankyou. A pity that Silk Air isn't yet included, which is an observation, not a complaint. I travel in SE Asia frequently. I'm thankful for the DJ status match promotion last year.
Virgin matched my VietNam Airlines GLP Gold, and that was just after I had redeemed a DJ flight (Points+pay) from HBA MEL with zero balance in Velocity. I sense a real pride by the staff of Virgin in their work. Sure, an "odd bad hair day" will come up. But with DJ nowdays, i feel as a flyer - like Ansett used to make me feel

I had an 'interesting' experience on 28 Jan while flying in J from MEL-SIN-KUL. I wanted to put the miles to VA but the SC to SQ to maintain PPS Solitaire. Eventually I had two people working on the question at the SQ J class check-in at MEL, including one who looked like SQ staff rather than a contracted check-in agent. Firstly they could not work out whether the code was DJ or VA - which one is it by the way? Then they could not enter two different codes against the two parts of the flights. Finished up putting both the miles and the SC to VA to SIN and everything to SQ for SIN-KUL as this was a code-share flight by MI so not eligible for VA miles or SC even though Silk-Air is a fully owned SQ subsidiary and is not a low cost airline.

The other point from the exercise was the lack of PPS Solitaire recognition on the boarding pass and during the flight so defeated the benefit of seniority in SQ while trying to build miles and credits with VA. The MEL-SIN boarding pass did not reflect any FF number so it will be interesting to see if the miles and credits make it to VA.

I think I will just leave everything with SQ for the return but may try again at SIN next weekend. I'll let you know how I go then and whether the credit for 28 Jan has happened. Has anyone else had similar problems?

I have previously had this issue with crediting points to VS and trying to retain the PPS benefit. That time (2010) they managed to get the recoding right, and it helped me get to Silver on VS, but only on 3 out of 4 legs (SYD - SIN - LHR). I thought about claiming, but I had enough from the 3 legs to qualify so didn't bother.

On subsequent journeys I gave up crediting to both and credited to VS, and the SQ when VS changed the requal to 12 SCs rather than 10.

As my next flight will likely be in Y, I won't bother crediting to SQ at all and direct all to VA.

Fair question as to the airline code. I think they are still DJ but then VA was V Australia?

I have heard of this being a common problem, and know others who struggle to get the right numbers into the right fields at "away" ports, but never really an issue at Singapore.

One thing I noticed that in my Krisflyer account, if you log in and then go to "My Account" then "My Profile" there is a section called "Other Frequent Flyer Programmes". My profile has both my BD and NZ programs listed, and I have noticed when our travel agent puts either number into the booking it picks up my SQ number and QPP status automatically. I noticed you can add numbers here to, including Velocity, so it may be worth a try before taking the next flight.

Thanks for ths advice. I will try doing that this week although it should not be that hard if it is a service offered and it happens everyday across the Star Alliance airlines.

I wonder how long before VA gets to join *A? Maybe that is a bridge too far, given their current alliances with Ethiad and Delta but it would be much easier if we had a *A partner domestically in Australia. Sort of like Ansett mark II.

I have been unable to add my velocity freqent flyer number to my SQ J booking online via "manage my booking". Rang up to do it via the phone but my Virgin number still does not apper in my booking. Is this normal? I suppoose I will have to check again at checkin:shock:

I have been successful in MEL and SIN having my file updated at check-in so that I have received both miles and status credits to my VA account while flying SQ. My SQ seniority has still been recognised on the boarding pass and on-board in most occasions. I have not been successful in having miles put on one account and status to another - the only time I tried this in MEL, it proved too difficult for the SQ representatives at check-in to achieve.

Also had some problems at other ports in Asia where the VA/SQ arrangements were less well known, especially soon after the cooperation started. They were only familiar with the *alliance rules. This may have changed more recently.
