Have the choice of flying QF or CX : BNE-LHR and just want to make sure I will still get full status credits.

You should get status credits - any reason to be worried why you may not?

Are you flying Economy or a higher class?

If you have a double status credits promotion from Qantas at the moment, it's more than likely you will not qualify for double status credits with your flight if you book CX rather than QF. But that's the only consideration I can think of.

Most Economy classes (viz. except for Flexible Economy) on CX will only earn 0.5 QFF points per mile flown. Also note that if you are a Qantas elite, your elite points bonus will not apply if you fly with CX. For example, as a QF Gold, you get a 75% of base points bonus when you fly on QF; there is no such bonus if you fly CX.

I have flown a lot of CX/KA recently and I can confirm that you get full status credits for discount Y and for J. Note however that as a QFF flying CX/KA discount Y, you only get 50% frequent flyer points (and from what I understand, all economy fare buckets except for actual "Y" fares on Cathay are considered as 'discount Y' for points purposes).

Note that a QFF member flying CX does not earn the Status Bonus points that are paid based on FF status. Status Credits are paid based on the fare type purchased as published for CX each airline partner in the QFF terms and conditions.

Flying "J" so sounds safe and I am certainly not any Elite status or lucky enough to be offered double status credits. I wanted to double check as this would put me at WP for the first and probably only time... I appreciate your quick responses

check your fare code carefully against the QFF Airline Earning Table - many discount Y buckets do not earn anything on QFF. otherwise SC earn will be unaffected.

Ah well - flying J so you should have no problems at all!

You'll receive less points than you would if you flew J on Qantas, but if that's not important to you, then no big deal.

Some discount Y fares receive no SC. Last November I flew CX Economy-S and received no SC and no QFF miles. Make sure you check the booking class.

another thing outside of the points difference is the actual difference in flight experience. Everyone has their own opinion but i feel the new CX J seat is great, i flew MEL - HKG in the new J seat and it was top class, I think ahead of Qantas offering. But if you do fly CX just insure the HKG - LHR is on a new config plane as the old J seat on the CX 747 is a far inferior product to the new J seat. I assume this is before April and so if flying with QF would be joining a A380 in Singapore for the LHR segment. So if it was me and i had the choice id go CX new J seat all the way. But that's just my opinion and im sure many have different ones.

All QF fares earn SC. the rate clearly varies.

In the context of cx many deep discount economy fares neither earn points it SC as others have posted.
additionally people have to be aware of codeshare arrangements as. Many cx codeshares do not earn points or SC.
