Recently I flew from SYD-MEL-LAX in J. As I arrived at the airport a little early I asked if I could be put on an earlier flight to Melbourne. I was told that because my ticket was international and not wholly domestic fly-ahead wasn't permitted.

Can anyone confirm that this is indeed the case?

T&C's only specifically mention domestic...(my bold below)

20.15 Fly Ahead
20.15.1 In the event that a Gold or Platinum Member, who has a confirmed seat for a domestic Virgin Australia flight, arrives at the Virgin Australia lounge on the day of travel in time to be carried on an earlier domestic Virgin Australia flight the Member is entitled to make a request that they, and an accompanying guest, be carried on that earlier flight (Fly Ahead).

Not sure why they differentiate between domestic legs of international bookings?

Well I am a Platinum member and that's why I inquired about fly-ahead. Just wondering if there's something peculiar about a domestic sector for an international flight ticket.

Was your luggage checked straight through to LAX? Perhaps they have maximum holding times for that?

A PM directly to Velocity Frequent Flyer on here would be the next action I would recommend.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you regarding this cssaus.
Members can indeed Fly Ahead domestically when travelling with an international sector providing they meet all the requirements (availability, travelling with hand baggage only etc).
Looks like you were misinformed in this instance so apologies for that.
