fluctuating pricing

I have been looking to book flights to Bali in November . So far, I have had 5 different fares for the same date. It is infuriating. Is this common with VA?
The 'sale' fare went up by $150 pp during the 'sale period' . Yesterday evening was showing a fare that was over $200 cheaper than the fare showing today.
Anyone got any advice?

As the fares are getting dearer each time you check, First try deleting your web browser cookies, closing your web browser and try again. I have found / read that some airlines track your history to their website via cookies, so when you revisit their website again they sometimes display dearer fares then your previous search, as they know your 'interested'.
I always do this everytime I'm searching for the best fares.

You will find that it is common with most airlines regarding the fluctuation of price.

As a part of yield management different fare buckets will be released at certain times.

My mindset would be to lock in a price you are happy with, as if you are waiting for bottom of the barrel prices, you may well indeed shoot yourself in the foot and cop a higher price for the flight you want.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't waiting for the bottom of the barrel. I simply had to wait to confirm a date with a hotel booking. I was furious to see fares fluctuate so many times in such a short period.

Can definitely confirm this, have had different prices displaying on the mobile booking app and the desktop website.
They also try to get you with the "X seats left" warning, which can disappear if you look at it another day.

As someone who also travels frequently and with short notice in most cases, the price of an airfare does not always signal demand (although sometimes it can). Plenty of times I've booked a flight thinking it's going to continue going up and then the next day it's significantly cheaper.

Yep -had this happen too last Christmas. No 'saver' fares left, so we booked a higher fare class. 24 hours later the 'saver' fare appeared again almost $100 cheaper..

This particular variation downwards may well have been due to 'happy hour' pricing.
