Yes, it is not flying but it is a very cheap way to go interstate. Flixbus is launching in Australia and is offering $9.99 fares.

I caught Flixbus in European trip 2 years ago and their buses were excellent with comfort and Wifi.

It is cheaper than going to your respective airports (SYD, MEL at least)

Agree with your assessment of the European offerings. I hope they eventually bring some competition between Sydney & Brisbane & some more sociable hrs in their timetable

In my experience, spanning Flixbus rides in France, Netherlands/Belgium and Italy - yet to have operational wifi - but other than that, comfortable and a good price, (about 1/4 the price of trains and only slightly longer journey time , or the ride we took in Italy the only choice unless we took 3x as long via train.

Not sure I’d be too keen to take it all the way from Melbourne to Sydney though! (Although have done in the distant past, way too old for that now).

Good for competition which is probably a bit stale here in terms of bus, don’t get me started on rail.

Good luck to them. They have a broad timetable for the Canberra to SYD run, departing at 0100h, 0300h, etc. You can book an extra seat as well for a bit of comfort.

Yes booked several trips on them on the promotional $10 fare Canberra to Sydney and Sydney airport services. Several buses between Canberra and Sydney. Will give Murrays some good competition. Appear to be more direct too with buses to Sydney Int Airport, Domestic airport and to Central. Buses leave from those places too. Got to beat the Murrays where you can spend up to 30 mins on a journey from Central to Canberra at the airport while they muck around boarding and ticketing passengers.

I think this new entrant has worked out there will never be a Very fast Train Mel to Sydney or to Canberra and that the route is quite lucrative with Murrays having a near monopoly on the CBR to Syd route for some years. Also given the premium on flights using Canberra Airport and rip off prices esp CBR to Syd or Syd to CBR many in Canberra start their flights especially if travelling overseas from Sydney in any case.

The new service has some good departure times especially for people getting in to Sydney off international flights in the evening who may have had to stay in SYD for the night before travelling the next day.

I think this new bus service will save people money with non promotional fares between Canberra and Sydney being around the $40 mark. Fares will probably be lower during the week and at off peak times. I expect the competition will make Murrays and Greyhound review and reduce their pricing on a similar basis as well.
