I am traveling to Perth with my little man next month and he will have just turned 2. He has his own seat but I am wondering if for take off and landing whether he would be allowed to sit on my lap with a lap belt? Does anyone have any experience with this? I want to get him prepared for the experience so want to be able to explain what will happen.

I was about to really confidently reply, and suddenly realised my (not-so) Little Miss is 9, and, gosh it's been a long while since she had to or could sit on my lap in a plane!

IIRC, your little one will be able to sit on your lap; you should be offered a lap belt by the FAs. I definitely had my Little Miss on my lap for take off and landing when we travelled and she had her own seat at 18mths.

I believe the "cutoff" is 2yo (in line iwth infant ticket vs child) so i've always had our (now 5yo) in own seat for takeoff and landing. Certainly what i'd be doing with our now 2yo.

You could consider taking his car seat onboard (there's an excellent recent thread on this) or purchasing a harness if planning on a lot of travel
