Flight VA9946 Brisbane to Nadi turned back yesterday

Whiling away the endless hours in the Brisbane Lounge yesterday when I noticed this oddity at the top of the Arrivals board - a flight arriving in Brisbane from... Brisbane. Also a weird flight number with an A at the end. I looked it up on Flight Aware and saw that it had been on the way to Fiji but turned back about hour from Nadi (my guess).
I couldn't see anything online about it. Also why is it listed as a domestic arrival when it's an international flight? Is Gate 70 in the international terminal?

This aircraft is actually heading to scrap according to posts from IG... This aircraft is heading to Arizona for scrapping with no passengers on board

Gate allocation and other resources is based on FIDS data, people were waiting! Incl a crew bus to get pilots through customs, refuellers and maybe even a mechanic.
