Flight review of a short (3 hour or so) business class flight on Turkish Airlines. For the full review with pictures you can find it here... Istanbul to Frankfurt – Turkish Airlines – Business Class
Summary
What’s to like – A nice food service, I was quite impressed with the quality of Turkish Airlines meals
Could improve – Nothing really, a nice flight although not sure about some later luggage issues as to where the problem started.

Flight number – TK 1617
Seat Number – 2A
Aircraft type – A320-200
Check in – I arrived at the airport from a close hotel that I had stayed in the night before. I found the Turkish Airlines check in desk and used their business class desk, allowing a quick processing and drop off of my bags.
While the check in was smooth and efficient, this flight was to Frankfurt after which I hopped on a flight Frankfurt to Toronto only to find my bags were still in Frankfurt. I never did track down exactly who was at fault, whether it was anything to do with the inputting of luggage information in Istanbul or transfer processes in Frankfurt although someone later did say that this had happened before with flights out of Istanbul.
I’d suggest, even though I did double check that I was checking my luggage all the way through, that you double and maybe triple check it if you have any onward connecting flights.
To board the plane we were required to leave the terminal and be bussed out to our awaiting aircraft.
Lounge – I used Turkish Airlines Business Class Lounge in Sabiha Gökçen airport. Although not as big as the very nice Turkish Airlines lounge at Ataturk airport (the airport is not as big either as it is further out and more difficult to access than the closer Ataturk airport, Istanbul’s main airport), you can see that they have used much of the same styling and design influence. Seat – Turkish Airlines use a typical European business class layout of basically 3-3 economy class seats but with the middle seat of each side of the row blocked off with like a table or flat space.
It’s a business class offering which doesn’t really offer a lot more than what economy class gets seat wise. But anyway, for routine 1-3 hour flights it is a decent seat.
Amenity kit – None for a short day time flight.
Entertainment – In just a short distance configured A320, no real entertainment was offered. There may have been some music but I had my own music and other entertainment options.
Food and beverages – The meal offering was quite nice for such a short 3 hour flight.
It started off with pre-departure drink, which I chose a sort of fizzy, raspberry drink and then later in flight being offered a Turkish delight, which I ate before I could photograph it.
Next came some Macadamia nuts with a soft drink that I chose.
The starter was a nice selection of Turkish appetizers, including some nice minced Salmon and some Chicken breast and various other vegetable options. This was served with a Mediterranean salad.
The main was a dish of Grilled sea bass fillet with lemon butter, ratatouille and rosemary potatoes which was delicious. Their was a small cheese board and also a dessert of Chocolate mousse.
All up I would rate the food as very enjoyable.
Service quality – I was the only passenger in business class so I got the attentive flight attendants all to myself, the crew were happy and friendly and provided a nice service.
On time – The flight departed and landed pretty much on time.
Conclusion – This Turkish Airlines service was a nice flight. The business class seating in these short range aircraft is what it is, but the food and service quality can often make all the difference and this was a high quality on this flight.
