I'm booked on QF129 to Shanghai in J tomorrow and have a question about advance seat selection.

When the flight was first booked I went in and was able to select 4F (not to keen on the idea of climbing over people / being climbed over).

When I went back in today to try to change it, I got this message:

"Your flight is not eligible for Advance Seat Selection however you can nominate aisle or window seat preference."

Not a big deal as I'm happy with my seat, but curious about what's going on? Could it be an equipment change - have heard that A333 on these is sometimes being substituted with 744?

Suggest you call the Qantas FF help desk to sort it out.

It's still showing as an A333. It is however rather busy in the J cabin.

According to ExpertFlyer - as a WP, there's only one seat available to me (3A). 1B, 1J and 2E are blocked.

I suspect that as a PS you may not be able to access 3A and as such there are no alternative seats for you to choose from hence "not eligible for advance seat selection".

I've had this happen to me before.

I've been having a similar problem for the past three weeks for QF93 in near future. I initially only had a choice of 5 seats [2 in row 38 exit row and 3 in row 39] - I needed 2 seats so chose 38EF. Ever since 13th Apr, it wouldn't let me back in giving the same reason [error msge]. Spoke to QF twice and they said no other spare seats. Even Expert Flyer can't display the PE seating. Had hoped for 34AB or JK but 38EF should be better than some others.

I think this might be related to the change to advanced seat selection. this came in around about 13 April, IIRC. Is you status bronze? I noticed a similar change with an international booking of my mum. She's bronze/Qantas club and could select seats before 13 April. After 13 April she got the message about not being eligible for seat selection. The other possibility is that it was related to being a TA booking.

Hmmmmm. I'm bronze and I can still seat select for QF93/94, so I wouldn't think that's the problem...

My hypothesis is that it was related to the change to the paid system. So if someone had selected before 13 April when it was free, that somehow created an error post 13 April where the computer saw a selected seat but no fee paid. :?: Basically a change over thing.

Were you booked booked and selected seats before 13 April?

I originally selected seats over the phone when it was free (in Feb), but then selected and paid for exit row once it was payable (on March 30). I havent tried changing the other selected seats since the payment system came in, but I dont get any error messages when I go in to have a look.

Of course, exit row selection was already available for an $80 fee. From what I read in this other thread I see a date of 13 April not 30 March. http://www.australianfrequentflyer..../advanced-seat-selection-no-longer-29315.html

Not sure, but my theory seems less likely.

.

Sorry- I meant that I paid for my seat on 30 March, so before the April 13 change over... should be more clear but my brain is fried tonight ...

yes, I had paid at the beginning of March. Anyway have boarding passes for todays flight to Melbourne and will sort out QF93 tomorrow morning

I have a similar problem for my Mel/Lon trip on the A380 in August 2011.

As a WP, I used to be able to chop and change my seats every other day but recently (not sure exactly when but probably consistant with the others of mid April), I get that same error message.

I already have great bulkhead seats selected so i don't mind but I liked checking in to see if other people have booked seats next to my 50A.

Thanks guys. Looks like this was caused by the J cabin being oversold, so there was no seats I could move to as a lowly PS.

I am getting a similar "Flight not eligible for advance seat selection" for QF439 (SYD-MEL) on Tue 06 Dec. All I can select is the window/aisle preference.

(I did get moved onto that flight yesterday after QF437 was cancelled.)

(I can select a seat on my return flight the following day.)

I'm getting this error on a OOL-SYD flight next week, booked in J class. Strange, it's definitely not oversold
