Hi All - received an email from Lufthansa today advising that they had cancelled my flight in Sept and offering me other options

- Rebook on a suggested flight
- Search for a new flight
- Bank the credit for a future flight

Thinking that I could explore each option before committing I clicked away only to discover that there are no warnings or further advisements - clicking the link instantly confirms the option you have chosen - in my case my flight was cancelled and the travel banked.

Not to any useful travel bank however - to use it you have to ring Lufthansa.

So - I rang the Lufthansa (Oz number) and was put through rapidly to a very friendly and helpful lady who efficiently rebooked me onto my preferred flight - with no additional charge - the new flight was €50 more pp than my previous, and was not the option offered at in the email so I left feeling pretty happy with the outcome despite my initial stupidity.

So....don't be like me (despite the good outcome) explore other options BEFORE clicking any of the links!!

Sounds like best would be to "Search for a new flight" since it would still be dependent on what comes up and you may still be able to back out by not selecting any of the alternatives presented and then opt for a credit instead?

Agreed. Searching for an alternate flight is almost always the best option and is what I really love when airlines have to cancel flights on me. Now I'm in the driver's seat and can choose the date/time of departure and routing that suits me. Travel bank does nothing for me in the sense that I'm forced to spend that money with the airline, and with the way fares are going, good luck finding the same flight at a lower price. What is interesting, and something LH doesn't outright tell you is the fact that you are entitled to a full cash refund when they cancel flights like that irrespective of what fare you purchased. After all, it was the airline not you who made the cancellation. This last bit was really useful when the whole COVID pandemic started as I had a number of overseas tickets booked with several airlines, with all of them ultimately cancelling their flights allowing me to request a full refund.

I used the AI agent to find alternative flights and rebooked. It was surprisingly competent but I did still have to call them to finalise it because the system got hung up on our seat selections.
