hey all,

i am going to fiji soon to the coral coast i do believe the warrick spa
currently my phone provider is with Optus Business and its a iPhone 4, also i have a samsung galaxy tab
what i was wondering can i get my iPhone 4 unlocked what is the cost how fast can it be done also i heard people getting stung lots of money for using international roaming, so what would be the best carrier for around the coral coast area of fiji that has some data allowance as well as cheap calls back to australia

thanks

damien

Damien,

To get your I phone unlocked you will have to ring Optus and they will tell you how to do it.

I have done it so it is not very hard.

Check if your plan includes international roaming mine does to app $100 of usage.

I have been to the Coral Coast and coverage is not great and there is only 1 carrier which is Vodafone last time i was there.

When i was there we lost coverage for 2 - 3 days due to a fault on the mobile network.

Data is very expensive to use Overseas app $15 per mb.

IMHO just use there internet kiosk and check e mails that way or find a wi fi hot spot.

When overseas i use SMS more than phone calls.

I am going to Fiji this week and i am just going to use my phone on international roaming and keep all calls to minimum and reply to messages by SMS or refer them back to my office to be helped.

I will make sure i turn data off as that will cost me a cough load of money otherwise.

I agree with Simo on pretty much all of this.

Remember that your resort may have an internet connection that is affordable. Last time we were in Fiji we were staying at Pacific Harbour (a little further around from where you will be) and they had an affordable internet option. The only problem was that it did not really work properly :!:

Fiji has Digicell on 900Mhz and Voda, it might be worth getting a local prepaid SIM for data.

Agree with comments from Simo and Straightman. Just returned from Naviti Resort (sister resort to Warwick) and just 20 mins before the Warwick.
poor phone reception on the Vadaphone network.... No 3g Signal. The resort has Wifi but it either wasnt working or didnt work well for much of the time.... They also have pc's you can pay to use to check emails.....

Or do what I did for the first time..... Put the phone in the safe and dont check the emails... Go off radar and relax... It was the most relaxing break I have ever had.... I have also uploaded some tips in my Fiji TR.....

Have a great break.... First time in Fiji?

thanks for the responses, the hotel does have internet but its like 40 bucks a day or something like that so i dont think i am desperate to access that,

i will look into digicel and vodafone

also this will be my first time going to fiji, via pacific blue and the room we are staying is the club room

You will enjoy the Warwick - one of my favourite places. Lovely grounds, right on the water, and they know how to look after guests.

Agree with malmacdowall - put the phone in the safe, don't check the emails and and turn off from the world for a few days.
