Hi All,

I currently have over 250k points on my Citibank rewards and need to transfer them over to a frequent flyer program before closing it down.

What is a better program to get bang for my points? What FF program will use less points for flights?

I have signed up for QFF as I am flying Qantas to La, then NY then home again next month so I get some points for that trip but I have heard Kris is better as a FF program.

Look forward to peoples opinion an reason why one is better than the other.

Cheers

What CB card do you have? I ask as Signature and Select transfer at a better rate than the Plat.

If you transfer to KF...and have a plat I would get the free for life Signature Card if you qualify for it (and you should get this anyway)....and then get them to close your other CB card with them transferring the points to your Sig card first. You have to ask for this.

I personally would transfer to KF as point costs for J or F is less and IMPORTANTLY you can easily get J or F awards on SQ planes OR their *A partners.
Wit QFF it is often very difficult or impossible to get a flight in a premium cabin on the dates that you would like to fly.

At a lower KF transfer rate the point advantage will be eroded, but availability will still be far superior.

I think you'll find that Citibank Qantas Rewards is a separate program from Citibank Rewards and that you cannot transfer your points to QFF from Citibank Rewards, which means you are confined to Kris flyer, Virgin or Asia Miles. If you were on the Qantas Rewards Program, you wouldn't have accumulated points, as they transfer automatically once a month.

I have the Citibank Select card at the moment.

I am moving to Westpac on either the;

Altitude Black (KF, Virgin) + 1.5 FF points for every dollar
Earth Black (Qantas) + 1.5 FF points for every dollar
Singapore Airlines Westpac Platinum (Kris) + 1.5 KrisFlyer miles for every dollar

So depending on what I get to transfer my current balance onto will determine what CC I get from Westpac

EDIT - Just called Citibank and yes you are right, I cant transfer thenm to Qantas. Also with Virgin and Kris I get 10k points for every 15k Citibank points.

With that in mind what program would I get better value?

Those rates are for the Amex spend. The Mastercard is generally half, except for international spend.

So use the about for Amex spend...BUT get the free for life CB Signature Card...and put your VISA spend on that.

Whichever one you're more likely to fly with. But I would be picking Krisflyer in my circumstance.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks Dave!

I spoke with Citibank, can someone just confirm this will equal the same.

With my current Select card I get 10k Kris miles for every 15k Citibank rewards points I have

With the new Signature rewards card I get 1 Kris mile for every 1.5 Citibank rewards point.

I was thinking I have to transfer my points before down grading but it seems it all works out the same anyway, they also said I will NOT loose my points (Had to get that confirmed)

So in essence I will get the same value if I transfer now with my Select or wait and transfer on the Rewards signature?

All that changes is the earn rate dropping from 2 to 1.5 Citi Reward points / $ spend. Citi Rewards redemption rates should stay the same.

This is what I have ended up deciding.

Citibank Signature Rewards (Fee free for life) - VISA - 1.5 Citibank points per $ (use this card if place will not accept Westpac AMEX)

+

Westpac Singapore Airlines Platinum Card - AMEX - 1.5 KrisFlyer miles per $ inside Australia

That way I still get the following from Citibank too;

  • Free wine every time you dine with the Citibank Dining Program
  • Complimentary Priority Pass™ Membership and two airport lounge visits per year[SUP]8[/SUP]
  • Discounted Airport Meet & Assist service[SUP]9[/SUP]

I must have been really lucky then I booked 2 x SYD to LAX in first on points in the A380 in July on exactly the day I wanted to travel :)

Might be time to buy a lotto ticket.
