So I was in line for international security screening at CNS and the fire alarm went off. Well handled, but it shut the terminal down for a while - no evacuation. There was half a dozen firemen running around in full kit trying to find out where it was coming from. Now maybe it's just me, but I would have thought that they'd have some system in place where all the alarms are hooked up to a network so that if one goes off, the airport fire guys know exactly which alarm went off and can go investigate that one specifically rather than needing to search the entire terminal for the source? Or is there some policy that if it goes off, they are required to search the entire terminal anyway?

Anyway, random musings from the departure lounge.

Most fire systems I've come across have panels that indicate which zone the alarm was triggered in

Ah, ok. I thought it would isolate the individual alarm. Learn something new every day :)

You might also learn that they were firefighters. The role is competency based not gender based.

maybe....just maybe....as the OP was actually there, that ALL the fire'fighters' were ALL MEN so posted accordingly...just a thought:D

I remember a wonderful F lounge experience a number of years ago where I think it was a power failure, but could have been a fire alarm, brought things to a standstill. You simply could not proceed through immigration, and all the while the F lounge was so close yet so far. Very frustrating.

In the club lounge at the Intercontinental Dubai, my bread was slightly burned by remnants of the persons toast before me. Unfortunately for the French guy after me, his toast ended up in plumes of smoke setting off the smoke alarms. Hotel evacuated but staff told us not to worry as we knew the cause.
