I am surprised at the things you do just to get Gold with Qantas. Is it really worth it? I mean.. Qantas Club access isn't really that fantastic. You must plan to consume alot of wine and chips, to recover what you spend on flights just to get status credits.
He is planning to sell his Gold Luggage Cards on E-Bay to fund it 8) .

You are probably right. QC is not worth it alone but it is nice benefit to have for some of the transits one must endure when flying. I travel to Thailand 2-3 times a year anyway, and a few local trips give me QF Silver every year. This year I wanted something better than QF Silver and since I was so close I decided on 3 status runs to reach QF Gold. No big deal really. It is only money. Plus I got to fly on Emirates, Cathay and Swiss.

Flying. It has become a hobby. Just like someone spending $50,000 on a 57 Chevy or bying a boat, or a caravan. I love going to new places. I have a lot of travel planned in the next couple of years and having some status on QF/OneWorld makes the trip a lot more comfortable. I don't need to go into the benefits of having silver/gold/platinum status when flying around the world. And believe me there is a lot of benefit, even at the silver level. Just to be able to skip the economy queue at check-in is almost worth all the trouble. And preferred seating. Need I say more.

Yep - the QP comes in handy. I finished up early in MEL today so used the lounge to good effect. It was very busy BTW.

Check-in at the J counter is great, and for domestic flights I usually check-in at the QP these days.
