I had a flight booked for Sydney through a credit shell i had a whilst back, i though i would upgrade it from a saver fare to a Flexi, tried to do online but it gave me a error message to ring call centre prob because i had booked it though them originally.

I was told that i have have to pay a $80 fee to do this, which i though was crazy considering it is the same time and date i was already happy to pay the extra $200 to upgrade but a $80 fee are you kidding me.

Told them to forget it oh well guess they just missed out on extra revenue because of there stupid policies i wasn't changing dates and times. You have to wonder sometimes !!!!!

But look at it from their point of view.

Once you had upgraded to a flexi, you then could have theoretically changed the date/time without penalty ... which may have been a much cheaper option than paying for a new fare.

Every other airline that I've had need to dig into the fare rules for manages this risk by "ringfencing" the value of the original non-refundable fare - ie pay $100 for a Saver, you can upgrade to a $300 Flexi for $200 more out of your pocket, but you can never refund that original $100. I don't see any advantage for VA in not doing the same

I've done it a few times now without needing to pay the change fee.

Probably due to my WP status though.

One of the ladies in the call centre told me that I should never expect to have it waived, but she will do it this time as a gesture of goodwill (yeah right!)
