Farewell Hilton - where next?

I'm fallen from Diamond with Hilton, all the way down to nothing silver. The shame! No other hotel status to speak of. Heading to Europe and NZ over the next few months so looking where to head to next. Free breakfast is a perk I love, but also partial to early check ins.

I missed the Accor promo to get to gold with QF. Any other instant status offers about? Or am I better off getting Accor Plus membership for $200 (1 Year Accor Plus Explorer Membership HK$1088 (~A$208) @ Accor Hong Kong (VPN Req.)). Not opposed to getting a new credit card if required either (which is how I got the Hhonors diamond in the first place!).

I mean, I could just PAY for better rooms, but where's the fun in that?

You’re a couple of weeks too late to get instant Accor Gold via Ibis Business. They just “Enhanced” the program to give 10 status nights (basically Silver status) but still provides worldwide discounts, whereas Accor+ is only AsiaPac.

Id look at where you are travelling this year and which hotel group has properties that most suit your needs and go from there. No need to do same chain year to year.

IHG for example usually offers status matches (and they don't ask for proof of your status with the chain you are trying to match). Last year their status match and a few double/triple points offers saw me easily get Diamond status and I have enjoyed upgrades and free breakfast since.

I favour IHG and Accor simply because it is usually easier to find properties with a walk in shower, whereas for some bizarre reason Hilton even in its most expensive properties often only offer a SHUB (ick).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Don’t stay at the CP Perth - the SHUBs there are a death trap to the uninitiated!

But I’ve just had two back to back Hilton properties in Oregon with walk-in showers (actually identical glass sliding doors in a DT and a HI&S).

I find the official hotel website are often cryptic wrt bathroom facilities but checking the property of Hotels.com often has better detail and better pictures.

CP in Hobart no issue, CP in Indianapolis look sot be a death trap SHUB hence eliminated from consideration.

A new Accor Plus promo AU$199 (plus CR 7% cashback) that’s even better:

And there is IHG always buying Ambassador membership which gives you platinum status and you get things such as a free weekend night which gives you more value than the $US200 fee.
Nearly always a good upgrade.

Oh good call.

Bought the $199 accor for starters. Will see how that goes.

I've really grown to like IHG. One underrated feature is you can regularly buy points at prices ($USD0.005/point) that give you substantial discounts over the cash price. (I'm fortunate enough to get even bigger bargains with the fourth night free from the US IHG credit card, but it's still good without that.)

If you can get a status match to Diamond, the breakfasts have been very respectable at the Crowne Plazas, Intercontinentals and Kimptons I've stayed at.
