I have been trying to find this out for a while. The Status Earnt Fare Class table notes the classes. But where on the ticket/booking receipt does it ever say this, prior to or after booking?

I was stung on this/didn't read the conditions fully, on a SQ flight earlier in the year and subsequently did not earn any SC.

The categories, from what I can tell never mention fare class in the terms it is described in the table, so how are you to know exactly whether you for example, are booking 'discount' or 'full fare' economy? Purely by the descriptions i.e should I assume that 'Main Cabin' on Virgin America is Discount Economy?

Thanks again

Depends on the airline.
SQ normally shows the booking class fairly clearly.
Others (eg. QF) hide it

Basically it doesn't have it on the eticket receipt or booking confirmation - which is pretty dodgy.

You can see what class your ticket is when booking by looking at the fare rules - the first letter of the fare basis is the fare class.

In the example below, it it 'L' class which is a flexi fare.

It also has your fare class on your boarding pass - which is why I always keep them in case I need to make a point claim.

Just checking my VA 1 booking to LAX, under Fare Rules it states ' Our system cannot retrieve the fare rules for your booking.'

Is it the 6 letter reservation code I should be looking at? In this case starting with H? Or is that just a reservation code?

That's just a reservation code. Maybe check the email with your itinerary that you got when you first booked?

The website is quite reliable at not finding booking rules....... something that should been fixed long ago.

You might be able to get the class our of the page source code - open the source code and search for the work 'farebasis' as in the screenshot below.

Important to understand this is Sabre bookings only. Can't be used for Amadeus bookings

Was able to the view the VA1 through the 'virtually there' e-ticket, still not fare basis code. Does say 'Saver' fare in the side bar under Ticket Info: Fare Family.

Seems an extremely strange thing to not be able to view anywhere on any part of my booking (it is also not on the original itinerary). Next booking I make will call to try and find out best/any way to see this prior to booking.

My V America and Delta bookins are unviewable through virtually there.

On the e-ticket, find the section titled RECEIPT AND TAX INVOICE DETAILS. Then look for the Fare Calculation Line. It'll look something like this - MEL VA CBR95.17SZDAS VA MEL59.32SZDAS AUD154.49END. The letters in bold are the fare classes. In this case, I'm flying from to CBR, then back to MEL, two segments, hence two fare class values.

That's just the way airlines are. Tip - I strongly suggest you save copies of the e-ticket receipts somewhere so if your points do not appear for whatever reason, you have the evidence that they need in order to retrospectively apply points. Keep your boarding passes as well, but they're not enough because they don't show fare class on them. You can't retrieve e-ticket receipts online after you have flown.

Usually Velocity have ways to confirm and look up this kind of information, but when I had to do a retro claim for V America last year, they made me go back to V America to get the evidence because I didn't have an e-ticket receipt. I had to send V America an email and they were nice enough to send me a screenshot from their reservations system showing the fare class.

Also, for Delta, try looking it up on mytripandmore.com.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Ok, have found it on the VA flights. Appears, after encryption, it is discount economy.

Can't seem to get the V America and Delta codes to work in any site.

REally is a bizarre system, not sure why they feel the need to keep this information hidden.
