Hi All, wondering if someone can help with a question?

I was flying a lot with work but am lo longer, still doing enough persoanl to retain Gold but may fall short of Platinum requal...

I have my wife pooling to my account and we have a few trips together in the next 6 months, in between that, I have other family flying, some of the trips with me, can I change my pooling on a regular basis and have different people pooling at different times? The few points I think I may be short would be attained if I could do that.

You are permitted one person over 18 to pool to your account at a time.

If there is more than one person over 18 living at the same address as you then you can swap them back and forward.

Obviously this won't work if you are all travelling at the same time.

Hi Serfty, I know that part, that's why I was asking about changing on a regualr basis, depending on who is flying. (Your message seesm to have cut off if you were expanding on that)

Hi,
I think you can change your family pooling members as many times as you wish. However I beleive that Virgins definition of a family member eligible to pool with is someone that is at the same address as you. I have been able to pool with different family members but they all reside at the same address.
Link Might be useful. Virgin Australia's Velocity family pooling: tips and tricks - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller
"We checked with Virgin Australia about its definition of "members of a family", and a Virgin spokesperson confirmed this means any 2 adults (over 18) and up to 4 children (under 18) who reside at the same address".

Hope this helps.

for domestic flights, could you not just add your Velocity number to your family member's booking? (assuming you are the same gender)

No. And the more people that try to game the system, the more 'enhancements' are likely to be added to the system.

For example, if a friend was going to fly to Melbourne via Tiger, I might offer them to book with my Velocity number via Virgin and get them to pay me the Tiger fare and I'll fund the difference just to get the status credits.

No. Just let it go. During the ticket booking process you enter your Velocity number which populates the booking with your details - so the ticket will be in your name. If you book the ticket in your friend's name then try to add your Velocity number afterwards - the computer will realise the names are different.

It would work if they flew under my name. They don't check ID.

Some things really are best left unsaid..... ESPECIALLY ON A PUBLIC FORUM!!!!!

Is this really an ethical option that you should be pushing on an open forum :?:

I think not :!:

I hope they don't end up just cancelling pooling outright as a result of the abuse. A compromise would be nice, for instance submit a marriage certificate to have pooling enabled by virgin. On the upside it will minimise they overfilling of lounges and status queues by infrequent travellers scamming status. A bit of flexibility to get you over the line is a good thing but the way it's going.....

That's ok if married. What about legitimate de-facto or same sex couples, do they get excluded?

I change our family pooling options all the time with no problems... our last trip to Europe with wife and daughter had me change family pooling 3 times (during the trip) because both my wife and daughter where both qualifying and re-qualifying for Platinum.

If it gets to the point that they look to can it due to abuse I would prefer to see it offered where evidence of eligibility can be provided. Apart from a marriage certificate I can't suggest anything that would serve this purpose. Maybe someone else can. Might seem unfair but it would also be unfair for everyone to lose the benefit due to some abusing it.

I'm married, but have friends in both those categories, and I would consider the marriage certificate or similar an unfair situation ( more than likely illegal) I know it's only been floated around on here, butATA was taken away due to "abuse" as far asi can see there are no more or less in the lounges than before. My guess is it will go, simply because any sweetener always does, once the company sees its use no longer producing results
Besides, it's something that is different to QF so that just won't do, they have to be exactly the same
