Hi everyone - not sure if anyone will know the answer to this pearly one, but here goes!

Im in the middle of planning family pooling for the next few months to ensure everyone reaches maintain levels. However - a potential stumbling block in my plans is different time zones. Anyway, does anyone know what time zone activity posts - is it based on times in Australia or is it based on the time/date on departure city? What if you change days during the leg-is activity based on departure date?

Essentially - as part of my 'maintain plans' I am wanting to change family pooling during stopovers. But I want to ensure it will work correctly.

E.g.

My partner and I are travelling SYD-AUH-MUC.
Say I have no pooling set initially
SYD-AUH departs and arrives on the same day
SC/points should go to each respective account.
AUH-MUC departs in the early hours of the next day
If set pooling from my partner to myself, will this work?

Thanks anyone for help!

It is based on activity date ( ie local departure date of the flight) and not the posting date into your account ( the activity and posting date are normally different up to +7 days)

The following should work eg
fly SYD AUH 1st
Then on the 2nd set up family pooling
fly AUH MUC 2nd

Thank you greatly for that reply.

So activity (and thus SC/points posting) is based on local departure date.

Thankyou!

Make sure you check T&Cs for how long a family pooling request takes to action. Especially if it is a Saturday or Sunday. Wouldn't want to miss out on a technicality.

I might have just been lucky, but every time I've changed family pooling, it's happened almost instantly AFAIK.

From personal experience the activity is logged based on the time in Australia when it occurs. This happened to me recently in the US - I was flying MEL-LAX and needed the points earn. I had a 4 hour layover before flying on to MSP/IAD on separately booked DL flights, however needed to get those flights credited to Mrs WLG. Due to timezone differences, the VA lines was closed being out of office hours, so I simply emailed Velocity and they made the necessary manual adjustments the next day - I was pretty impressed with how quickly and painless this was.

Just looking to confirm.

Looking at WLG's post, am I correct in assuming that I can check in for a flight from say BKK-SIN-SYD which has a 2-3 hour layover in SIN, have the SC's & points credited to my account for the BKK to SIN leg, change the family pooling over to partner's Velocity account (whilst waiting in SIN) and have the SC's & points for the SIN-SYD leg credited to partner's account?

Confirmation would be greatly appreciated.

Do the BKK SIN + SIN BKK depart on separate days or the same day eg BKK SIN 24FEB SIN SYD 25FEB? if yes it should work .. if all the same calendar day departure for both flights .. won't work

Flying from AU to US you always arrive and depart on the same calendar day, so that is why you had issues.

Unfortunately not. Might however see if I can change it up a bit to make it work. Thanks for the advice. Appreciate it.

I've had success with this in the past. Always a good strategy to get points and SCs where you need them. In my experience, wherever you are pooling at the time of departure is where the points end up.

So even if it's the same day, it should work. Let us know how you go.

Appreciate the advice mrsmart. Will see how I go. Flight not for awhile yet, but will post once completed. :)

This did not work as planned in my recent experience. Changed pooling setting during a lay over between flights that departed on the same day/time zone. Second departure time was way after my first departure time. The points went in the direction of my last setting for the day; second departure... Not a big deal for me, but did it out of curiosity.

Wow, that's quite interesting. So I guess it'll adopt the first change of the day. If you change it again, it's ignored?

I've only ever changed family pooling during a trip when there's been several weeks between one set of flights and the next, so have been reading this and similar threads with interest as I'm hoping to be able to pass some SCs on to my husband from my US trip next year which will mean changing family pooling during the outbound and return flights. I'll hopefully be flying in J which will give me more than enough SCs to requalify for SG, so don't want the extra SCs to go to waste!

I think it should be OK, but can someone please confirm that this would work - fly PER-SYD on Monday for example, pool SCs from that flight to husband. Cancel pooling on Tuesday morning so that SYD-LAX and LAX-SEA flights go to me. Leave this as it is for the return SEA-LAX and LAX-SYD flights, departing on a Sunday. On arrival back in SYD on Tuesday, add husband to family pooling again so he receives the SCs from the final SYD-PER sector (I'm assuming this last change would be OK as the LAX-SYD flight departs effectively two days prior to the date of my arrival back in SYD?). Thanks :)
