This is a question for our friendly Virgin Representative.

Are family benefits likely to be seen this year by chance ? I am wanting to move some points around and this is going to be the best and easiest way. Assuming of course it applies to the accounts as the stand now.

As I understand it, if you’ve already earned the points then family transfers is what you should be using, and that has remained unchanged. I think the family benefits relates more to an automatic crediting of SC and points when the flights is taken, not after the fact?

Either way, if you want to move points around you still have the 4 family transfers you can make right now.

I don't believe the details are sorted for status credit earn across a family. I'm not bothered about the points, but SCs make a big difference. Need to know:

- When will family SC transfers be available from??
- Will the transfers be at 100% SC value i.e. if my family earn 80 SCs on a flight, do they credit 80 SCs to my velocity account?
- Do I need to be flying with the family for the SC credit to apply?
- Will it apply to existing bookings?
- Will it apply to flights already taken?

I'm eagerly awaiting these details too - my DJ travel is all leisure, so it's almost 100% travel with my wife - I'm hoping the details will work to allow one of us to be turned gold before an international trip next year, rather than being a pair of traveling silvers on ~250SCs each.

Going to Europe it will make a huge difference to who I choose to fly with. If one of us was Gold, the lounge access and other benefits would immediately tip me toward flying within the Velocity 'alliance' regardless of cost (I'd be aiming for a Y+ travel class, although I realise I'd probably end up on Y from AUH into Europe). But as two silvers, other than SC earn, the Velocity 'alliance' offers very little. In that situation I'd be more inclined to purchase based merely on cost, and if I ended with someone who offered Velocity earn then great, but if not, there's not much lost.

This is one point where QF still has a crucial edge, in my view - QC membership gets you lounges everywhere as a non-status member. The other is lack of points upgrades on V Australia metal - but there have been inferences that Velocity is working on this.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

In exactly same situation as Fruitcake, wife and i silver, but if could combine accounts and status credits, one of us could be gold and other remain silver, great for future travel bonus and priority access checking in, and with lounge access, makes the process much more comfortable. Any future points burn will be for both of us, so waiting for details.
