F - Flight query?

I just had a quick look on aa.com and did the following booking search...

I plan to fly from SFO to LAX on 27 October........

SFO - LAX = $671USD on F

BUT if I book SFO - SAN on F with stop over in LAX = $172USD

The SFO-LAX is on the exact 6:05pm flight.

CAN I book the SFO-SAN on F but at LAX get off the plane, take my bags, and exit at LAX and forfeit my remainded LAX - SAN leg?

Strange, but thats $399USD difference!

Welcome to the world of yield mgmt...

What you're trying to do is hidden city ticketing, which is not an uncommon way to circumvent yield control.

Make sure you only have a one way booking, as skipping any segments will mean automatic cancellation of ur what's left of ur itin. Also, you might find that it'd be difficult to explain to the check in agent as to why you want your bags tagged only to LAX.

In theory AA will charge you the full fare of ur actual routing if you're caught. They'd turn a blind eye if it's ur first time, but make it a habit and they will start paying attention.
