Extreme HLO

I have done six weeks during an European winter. Lots of rinsing and trips to the dry cleaner. As mrsmart said, much easier if you were travelling premium, which I was.

I was so sick of those clothes by the time I got home!

Did two weeks USA/Europe last December with HLO. Forced to wash a few underwear items in hotel bathrooms as I was regularly only staying one night at a given location - fortunately the Uniqlo airsim range dries quickly.

I was mostly doing site / factory tours so there is no obligation for suits / ties, which helps with the selection of clothes packed for the trip.

Good to know some charge by weight!

Agreed with Airbnb. That's probably the single most valuable part of private residences. That and having a kitchen.
Found a good looking local one called Dryz. Pricing is reasonable.

Wash & Fold per kg – $5.00 (3 kg minimum per order)
Hotel Service Fee – $10.00

I'm trying to think of the guy?

It was a few years ago. One of those american travel gurus. Grrr, Steve something or other? Bugging me that I cannot think of his name.

Anyway, he has made a fortune with his books and various paraphenalia (spelling?)

So, one of his hints for travelling light was to wash your undergarments and t-shirts in the hotel bathroom sink, honestly, I tried it. Just wasn't the same!

Plus, I kept thinking, what if the person in this room before me has done the same thing?

And I want to brush my teeth now? Eeeeek!

Not anymore!

It's totally not the same. One of the best parts of washing your clothes is the feeling of wearing clean clothes. And a hand-wash in the sink has nothing on the assault that a washing machine provides your clothing (although they'll certainly last longer!)

Agreed.

A trip to a proper laundry - hopefully not the hotel one - every other time helps with that.

Totally agree mrsmart.

As I said, I did try it a few years ago on a european jaunt. Soon craved that freshly washed feel. Never again will I suds up in the Hilton;) Or the Holiday Inn. Promise!

Rick Steves.

The bloke wasn't too bad, his tips/videos helped us heaps when planning for Europe. He does do things on a budget though :)

Ever downloaded one of Rick Steve's travel logs on his app? It is recorded from his radio programme. I wanted to reach into my phone and slap some of the callers!

I reckon there's a big market for a global, reasonably-priced laundry service that does exactly this – pick up, drop off, wash and fold. I'd use it at home as much as when travelling.

I really hate washing.
One day I will work out why people want to waste time washing/drying on their travels.

I will continue to check as much luggage as possible as I see no advantage to limiting myself to a few clothes that need to be washed every few days. If I have a 12 day trip then I will have clothes for 16 days. Oh well, good to have a handy luggage allowance.

My entire clothes supply is probably only about 7 days anyway. I struggle beyond that at home.

In my case it's because;
1. I absolutely detest waiting at baggage carousels.
2. I hate lugging ( or even wheeling ) around a large suitcase.
There are times when it's a neccessary evil, but I really hate doing it. Made all the worse by the fact that I live in a very warm place, and I'm not accustomed to wearing lots of clothes. Which means I don't go to cold places very often because that means luggage.
Having said that I'm off to Pomland and France next month, for 6 weeks, which might be interesting luggage wise.
