In the absence of finding a better thread…I am planning first OS trip in 3 years. Have seen the chaos in domestic with crowds cancellations etc
May I seek experiences from J travelers leaving MEL on SQ ?
Appreciation in advance

Hi Martine
We left Mel on SQ J class on Tue 12 July.
Around 10 pax ahead of us in priority check in and got through quite quickly.
No longer need to remove laptop etc at screening, no priority lane here but when we travelled early Tue evening walked straight up to screening without a queue.
Chose the Air NZ lounge which was excellent, another 8 people in the huge space and champagne and water topped up as soon as they were emptied. Small choices of hot and cold meals/snacks.
Went up to SQ lounge just to get the call to gate and to see how it was...it was packed and ordinary offerings BUT gate directly opposite lounge. The boarding was comical as we were sent backwards and foward a few times by gate and lounge staff.
On boarding managed to get a champagne before take off but it was removed before we started taxi-ing.
Staff, seat and food great on first leg MEL-SIN. (Awful seat on SIN-MAN and barely any rest, non-touch IFE and fiddly system and good staff).
Hope that is useful to you?

Thankyou fortaking the time to pen this. Very helpful. Glad to see predeparture not resembling domestic chaos of weeks ago. Making decision late August about doing trip in F
Thanks so much

Squeeze72, great reply. Could you elaborate on why the second sector seat was 'awful'?

Too close to the galley/too much light or some other reason?

Melbournian1 seat location was fine (16D & F) not noisy or light etc it was the seat style. The angled footrest cubby hole meant an awkward position. When reclining into the z hammock or sun lounge position feet can get trapped as there is a strange 'shelf' under the screen.
To convert into a bed you can't just recline it to the position you feel comfortable with (I like a slight raise at the head as a small pillow isn't enough lift for me). You have to step out of the chair, stand in the aisle and 'flip' the seat back over to make a bed. You still need to sleep at an angle because of the footrest cubby hole.
It is very hard, and I like a firm mattress, and it is very flat. I prefer the ability to recline more and more to a sleeping position and gently drift to sleep. I do suffer from lower back pain, and I'm not overly tall at 167cm. I also snore occasionally so being a little raised is nice for other passengers!
My hubby and self can see that these same designs are in the LHR - SIN and we are not looking forward to it! The bulk head seats are meant to be better as the angled cubby hole is not there making a much more spacious seat, however still need to get out and flip the seat for flat bed.
Having originally transferred points for RTW pre covid with Star Alliance, this seat alone (and also on demand dining as standard) would make us choose alternative carriers for future Europe trips which we have a lot coming up due to elderly parents in Uk.

It might depend what time your departing SQ flight is, I assume there are several daily services. Mine was the 9 am ish flight - no queues to check in and minimal queues to clear security. Lounge was very lightly occupied.

Yeah never understand the SQ J seat design...why so wide but short?!
And don't get me started on the get up and flip thingy!

Their new regional seat on the 787 is a lot better imho.
