So I have a Qantas flight booked from CNS to BNE return for 28/07/16 (return 29/07/16).

I received an email from Qantas with my "Exclusive Invitation to the Qantas Club"

Treat yourself before take off

Make your upcoming flight even more enjoyable with this exclusive offer to purchase Qantas lounge access.[SUP]*[/SUP]

We're inviting you to relax before take off in one of our stylish lounges away from the hustle and bustle of the airport. Enjoy refreshments, Wi-Fi, the
latest newspapers and magazines, and in selected lounges, showers, a barista service and a family zone.

Start your journey in style when you purchase a lounge access invitation for the following lounge(s):
Lounge
Flight number
Date
Lounge
Cairns The Qantas Club
QF649
28 July 2016
Lounge
Brisbane The Qantas Club
QF786
29 July 2016

Follow the link bla bla bla to buy now. No price on email, but following link shows $49 at each location. Invitation expires when check-in closes. Price is competitive with trying to source a complimentary pass.

So....a quick check of Lounge meet-ups and nothing currently there to suit. Cairns invitation doesn't really suit, but the Brisbane one does. Well $49 for 3-4 hours of drinking is probably worth it. On-call...so fingers crossed nobody rings :)

If you don't want to join the QP and have plenty of time to look, I have seen passes for sale at $25 on the web.
Just be mindful of the expiry date.

Exclusive invitation to buy a ticket to the QP. That's vintage QF marketing speak.Cheers skip.

Was an article on ausbt about this last month, looks like it's into swing now. They are trialing it on low peak times/routes.
I should hit Qantas Gold next month.. I am interested to try out Qantas lounges or some other OW lounges (have not yet had the chance).

My experience as a Priority Pass member paid for by my work is that I would struggle to find the $27USD it costs in value at most of the lounges. There have been some almost exceptions and I realize that a lot of these commercial lounges are not as good, but still.
The plus flying out of Australia long-haul though is that I very often seem to hit non-peak periods at other airports so they can be quiet-ish.

I have however figured out that having a mid-way shower on 20-30h flights is actually amazingly refreshing even if not flying right into work. I now always pack a change with me.
