Hi,

I just booked a business rewards seat to CDG using my Velocity points. I was informed I could only redeem on the Boeing 777 rather than the A380 which was my preference since they have the business suites.

I have no reason not to believe them and I'm sure it will beat flying in Y. Just wanted to check in with more experienced members as to your experiences.

Hey
I did a velocity reward booking a couple weeks ago for 2 people in j class from Zurich (787) to Adelaide via Sydney on the a380 for May next year .So it's possible , I just did it online . Unless things have changed

I've been monitoring F and J reward seats out of BNE and SYD for June 2016 for the last few weeks and no F reward seats were showing for these sectors, though I managed to get a J seat on the B789 out of BNE. There's a few other threads discussing this... try to find them and you'll get other people's recent experience.

Booked Ey 380 ex Syd in J using Vff points only a week ago.

Hi guys thanks for the feedback. I'll have a look for those other threads & contact virgin again. I did it over the phone this morning to ensure I got it done as they confirmed usually only 2 J seats released per flight initially & just wanted to kick it in. Might try online for the return trip.

Use this link to search for EY availability, and then you can try to find the same on VA website, or call up and they should be able to locate it as well:
Book flights with Etihad Guest Miles

A380 F seats ex SYD have been blocked for some time now. Not sure about J.

That's what I thought too, but sometimes you can get lucky.
The other day I saw one F seat available on EY455 ex-SYD for tonight's flight (Friday). As of Tuesday morning it was still available.

Does EY even operate the a380 to CDG ? Looking up till MAR16 and appears to be 777 or a340

I've done a little more research - booked in a hurry this morning. EY site shows 2 flights SYD to AUH per day. Afternoon flight is 777 (second leg to CDG is 777) and evening flight is A380 (second leg is A340).

Don't have EY Guest membership so couldn't have a look at their inventory. VFF site shows no available inventory on EY or VA metal to AUH.

Looks like there's a lot more 777 flights from SYD so less likely to snag an A380 J rewards seat. I can live with that - beats flying in Y.

You don't need EY Guest Membership to view the inventory through that link.

It's free to join, in any case.

a380 definitely available, just more demand for it.

We are doing the 789 ex-bne. Just interested in whether people would prefer it to the 777?

I would. I've flown the 77W a few times in F and keen to try something different and newer even though there's not a whole lot in it.

And I'm in Melbourne. As you're in Brisbane its a no brainer.

I just wanted to report back and thank this thread for your help with booking EY J redemption via Velocity especially the link to check EY site for availability first. I've just booked my return flights. After a bit of a scare this morning as there was no J award availability showing on the EY site nor via Velocity site or call center (Y award only showing) they became available tonight. My learning is that European originating flights are released sometime during European daytime rather than Australian time. Thought would be helpful for other EY noobs like me.

There was no option for morning (A380) flight from LHR but snagged evening flight 777 all the way. Will have to experience EY J on A380 another time.

You can get lucky sometimes - i managed to snag F going out (777 to AUH and 380 to LHR) and J in the 380 all way back

A lot of F availability on the 777 for mid next year has been made available.
