Got a google flights alert for flights I wanted in June - EY CGK to MXP for $2.3k in J ... lead me not into temptation ....

My only concern is that will travel insurance cover ANY of the flights? Or is the whole trip not covered since you went through a 'do not travel' zone?

as mentioned, only the parts directly related to DNT would be excluded.

Lost bag in transit, not covered by TI (but would be covered by airline).

Accident in transit at the airport… not covered by TI, but potentially covered by Montreal Convention.

Accident on the streets during a stopover in DNT country, not covered by TI. But anywhere else would be.

Took my chances last week. Sydeny to Athens // Barcelona to Melbourne.
$3800. Mid May departure. The inner gambler in me liked the risk / return. Will keep you posted if it ends in tears!

The ticket didn’t have seats or lounge included (fair for the price) but I was about to use Virgin Gold status match here for US$75 which secured Etihad Gold with lounge and seat selection.

Holy cow, 2.5k return J from CGK to AMS/BRU, in around Sep/Oct when I want to go, I think this is too tempting to miss.

We flew on a cheap Etihad J fare from CGK to London in October 2024. First leg CGK - AUH was overnight on 777 and lie flat. Very long layover in AUH then to LGA in A 380. On the way back however was older 777 LGW- AUH then a very old a330 Wamos Air wetlease.
YMMV of course but by the time we factored in arriving CGK a day early, positioning flight (QF J Award) accommodation cost and taxis, long layovers and the ‘Wamos experience’ I doubt we’d do it again.
Always Nice to fly J, but I think a good quality Premium Economy, daytime flights, with a stopover in a city we actually wanted to visit would be a better, faster, cheaper option.

Wish me luck, have booked EY to LHR for just over a months time. Used QF points to get to MNL. Bit concerned by the sudden uptick in activity in the gulf but anyway, it is what it is. Am on 777-300ER and A380 both ways

AA would be my bet given the worst earn is 100% + 30% and their burn in Australia is still pretty good on Transcon/NZ flights

I used a Virgin Australia status match to get Etihad Gold, which then allowed seat selection etc on the cheap fare. All up I received 29,000 points, which roughly translates to a $300 voucher to use locally (probably wine on sale from Dan Murphys) if I don’t fly again and build more points.

The reason I asked was because the fare was 'P' class, the old Residence fare class. Which theoretically credited to AA/AC at 300%
