According to The Scotsman, Etihad will no longer fly to Edinburgh as of October. This may be because of Hainan Airlines flying to Edinburgh from the 12th of June. Also China Airlines may be joining them in flying to Edinburgh, but not confirmed yet. This would mean that Etihad's profit from Y would fall. It will be interesting to see how Qatar airways goes, with Etihad leaving and Hainan Airlines coming onto the route. After all Etihad charge $6500-$7000 for J and Hainan will charge $5500 at the most, maybe less. They are of coarse very different airlines with a very different product and service. It would be interesting to know if anybody has flown with Hainan??

I flew in Y last year to Xi'an. One flight had no AVOD (a rough 11 hours) and the other had seat back IFE which was fine.

We flew in Y last June SYD-CSX-PEK and CSX-SYD aswell as a few domestic flights and didn’t have a problem with them at all. Flight out of SYD was delayed by over an hour due to storms when it departed Changsa. We therefore were delayed arriving into CSX and missed our transfer. It was getting late at night and Hainan were very helpful despite the language barrier and offered to put us up for the night but just as we were about to be picked up and transferred one of the young staff members came running down the hallway and said that they had just had a 2 PAX no show for the last flight to PEK in J class so we still got to arrive in PEK that night. Found their staff friendly and seats comfortable enough and must say the food in both classes was very good. Even in Y class they are very liberal with their spirit pours and quite often would pour way too much.
