Seriously? What about the 5 second rule? Sounds really wasteful to me, do you really believe those cups would be carrying significantly more bacteria that you are sucking into your lungs in an airplane?

Five-second rule? I was told that it was three seconds, which I suspect was invented by hospital nurses when they accidentally dropped your medication which rolled on the floor ... "It's okay. Three-second rule. These pills are fine." ;)

I think that only applies in the family home! Given the grot that people carry let alone all those shoes or feet, you think it’s ok to put such a cup to your mouth? Wasteful maybe but that’s the way it is.

Everything wrong in her life is because she didn't get out of her seat to get a drink of water?? Please. What is this - the US?
BTW, I wouldn't recommend drinking the on-board water on any aircraft unless it's been (nearly) boiled ie coffee. The water tanks rarely, if ever, get cleaned. If beer isn't your favourite rehydrant, then bottled water, mineral water, soda water, lemonade, etc etc.

... The whole lawsuit seems rather opportunistic.

Not just that, it's a classic sort of case run by egregious, "NWNF lawyers." This trend towards USA-style court actions must be resisted by the judiciary. One would hope her case is swiftly thrown out of court. Lacks merit!

Any capable adult who is incapable of getting up to ask the FA for water - let alone push the call button to request is IMO unable to function normally in society. (it seems beyond belief IMO that the FAs would deny water)
It would be in the best interest of all parties for said person to be committed to a facility where she can live out her life in an environment that protected her from inflicting injury again due to such circumstances.
It really is a stretch blaming the airline for ones own stupidity.
