Emirates are Emailing touting for votes. But they need a good kick in the cough. You used to get double the miles that you now get. Before, 6-7 return trips gave ONE free trip. Now it takes 20 return trips. However the miles have an expiry, and so you will never do 20 trips before the miles start dropping off!!! - IE miles earnt have been severely cut, whilst the miles needed for redemptions has nearly doubled in a lot of cases. Also tier entitlements have been reduced/dropped, such as taking a guest into the lounge. Continual and severe erosion of the Skywards program, and at the same time fares are increasing. So I suggest that you vote in accordance with your opinions. The link in their email does not work, and so I suggest that you go to and click on 'Vote' at The 2012 Freddie Awards

Or you can vote with your feet, as I have done. I am now only Skywards blue and when I have used up all my points I doubt I will use them again.

All the emails I've received touting for Freddie votes have been from hotels, but I'm not surprised that air carriers are doing the same thing.

My problem is that the Freddies, like most other awards, are a popularity contest. There's no rating or grading which shows that X really is better than Y.

And all that emails like the OP described perpetuate that. Those with the most active members who'll bother to look at that email have a higher chance of rising to the top.

Worse still is that half the programs on each Freddie voting sheet most people have never expeirenced. How can they be expected to compare, contrast and grade with any chance of it being a fair fight. Most people will just select the programs they most frequent or love - without knowing if there's actually greener pastures to be expeirenced.

Or: tl;dr version - they're just a sham to make corporate marketing managers feel good.

We also have voted with our feet. But father in law love EK, he is Gold, and has no intention of changing.
