What class of travel? If J or F you will be able to access the domestic QP in ADL for example.

only Y - it is for some friends (they are not as obsessed with J and F as we are) and I'd like to gift them something if it wasn't too expensive or make a suggestion for a card they could get

In ADL the QP is prior to int security and passport control. You've still got 2 more queues to get through before boarding an int flight. I never find it very relaxing there before an int flight for that reason.

Thankfully for the EK flights yes. In the morning I have seen the immigration queue extend back to the security exits of the general airport.

I agree with Anna. There are still security checks and immigration after the QP. Not relaxing at all.
