Can someone please provide the times, days of week when the Melbourne Emirates Lounge is open.

Thanks Serfty, is there any indication of how long before a flight the lounge opens? Considering there is 5 hours between EK 407 and 409 would it stay open between those flights?

They have a sign which lists the operating hours. It is placed near the glass door when the lounge is closed. I can't really remember what the sign says, but it is essentially 2-3 hours before each flight, so the lounge opens and closes and opens and closes throughout the day.

I think it closes for a few hours before re-opening.

As a side note, Lori in this lounge is awesome. She has managed a couple of re-seating miracles for me in the recent past :)

Also, If you have QF/EK Platinum status (or above), and are travelling on an eligible flight, and are at the airport before 5pm you can use the QF First lounge, which I think is a much better lounge.

On the flip-side if you have QF/EK gold, I think the Emirates lounge has a few advantages over the QF Business Lounge (e.g. better views, real Champagne, etc).

For EK405, I often arrive T-3 hrs to check in, go to QF First lounge for 1.5-2 hrs, then go across to the EK lounge once the First lounge closes when the last QF to AKL is called.

Thanks for the information penegal. I am flying on QF8409 on the 19th at 0330 hrs  so I am not sure I want to get to the airport 10 hours before departure to use the QF F lounge. I might aim for about midnight.

eek, that is a delightful time for a flight.

TBH I wouldn't be in a hurry to get to the airport... It will be quiet and there won't be much for you to do except enjoy the EK lounge's offerings, which are okay, but not as good as the F lounge ;)

Thanks. I think I will be on the last train from home. I am hoping the EK upgrade fairy is in a good mood.

I wouldn't be in the mood for a sit-down meal at 2am really!

Today's opening hours at least

Edit to add: going by our flight the lounge opens three hours before departure and closes at departure.

Happy to report that they do stay open a bit longer if departure is delayed :)

(Sent from a taxi in NZ. Deregulation of taxis seems to have opened up a whole new service experience..including free wifi in this taxi)

Why don't EK close their lounges in Australia and just use QF lounges? Because their flight times are different?

It is an alliance, not a merger...
