Emirates' Taipei service seen as threat to Cathay Pacific's Europe network | South China Morning Post

This could be good news to those who has seen I Fares rise over the last year (particularly to Aus), I cant imagine CX is about to let EK get a foothold in their premium pax from TPE and given they rotate most of the fleet through TPE it could be a bloody fight!

Some 65 per cent of the transit passengers from Taiwan opt to fly with Cathay now because Taiwan has limited choices in international air services, said Edwin Lau Wing-chu, vice-president of Hong Kong and Taiwan at Emirates Airlines. Taiwan has direct flights to just four European cities; Paris, Frankfurt, Vienna and Amsterdam.

Emirates will challenge Cathay's dominant role on the Taiwan-Europe route because the deep-pocketed carrier can leverage its better European network and competitive airfares.

That's interesting, hopefully there will be some cheaper CX I fares as a result of this. How are QF J fares ex TPE these days? I noticed that the booking system crashed last time I tried it a few days ago.

Cannot see it having much effect, given its an option that adds at least another ten hours to what CX offer. Might be attractive to the status runner, but those fares are not chasing that market.
