Hi everyone, just wondering if it is possible to access the EK lounge in Sydney on a QF flight to the USA? QFF Gold status.

If access is possible, thought it might be worth a look at the EK lounge for something different?

Thanks in advance!

Not until March 31 then it should be OK, bit of a walk though!

Thanks for the info!! Flight is on 4 April, so just in time. Does it matter that I am flying to the USA?

Have heard from others it is a nice lounge...but is it worth the walk in your opinion though? I have some time to kill as I am transiting from an early domestic flight.

In a related question, is the Emirates First Lounge accessible to Qantas WP in Melbourne? I'll be on QF 093 to LAX. How does it compare to the QF First Lounge? Can you pop between the two?

Like all Australian cities where separate lounges exist, if they are open, in theory you can use them, I will be testing out this theory for obvious reasons in a few weeks time in BNE.

Is there a First lounge in MEL?

There is a simple rule for lounges - in the "home" port the "home" airline will have the best lounge. For a start the EK lounge is a J/F lounge so no dedicated F experience. There is no spa, no chef cooking food to order and so on.

Does not apply for BNE, EK lounge leaves QF for dead, and has direct boarding which will start to get used in October. EK offer consistency across their lounges which include food, so it won't always be reflecting local styles, a good overview here:

I think the interesting proposition will be SG access to the EK lounge in Melbourne.

IMO the QF Int Business Lounge at MEL T2 has certainly upped its game these days, into what I consider a very good lounge - with a reasonable, well displayed and accessible F&B range and nice island dining (set menu) at meal times, as well as good in lounge staff service and well planned floor space zones. But the draw card of a lounge with a view (EK), might be very tempting for some SG's?

Do we actually have an official access policy available from QFF yet?

I see in that brief where it states QFF status flying QF or EK has access to EK lounges in Dubai, but it is not clear that QFF status flying QF has EK lounge access elsewhere.

Point number one
For travel from 31 March 2013, Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyers will have access to the Emirates lounges where available across Australia, Europe, Asia, North Africa and the Middle East.
This does not specify that you can access any of those EK lounges when flying QF, whereas it is explicitly stated for Dubai. So does that not imply that EK lounge access (elsewhere) for QFF status is only available when flying EK (rather than QF)?

What exactly do you mean by QFF status, its either elite who have access when flying either airline (in designates countries)while QP have access in Duabi but not elsewhere?

You can use any lounge you want as per:

Middle East.

It's preferred you go to the lounge of the operating carrier (for announcements) but you can use either one.

Does this clarify things for you?

61. Will Qantas Frequent Flyer Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum or Gold members have access to all Emirates lounges?
For travel on/after 31 March 2013, Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyers will have access to the Emirates lounges where available across Australia, Europe, North Africa, Asia and the Middle East. In Dubai, Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One and Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyers will have access to the Emirates First and Business Lounges and Gold Frequent Flyers will have access to the Emirates Business Lounges.
Emirates lounge access is in addition to Qantas lounges, worldwide.
To access the relevant lounge, Chairmans Lounge, Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Members must be departing that day on a Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) operated flight.

Does this clarify things for you?
Yes, that is a much more thorough explanation. Lounge access when departing on QF or EK metal is stipulated in that quote, where as it is missing in (point number one of) the quote from TheInsider and previous link.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone noticed this when looking at that QF document linked by Markis10?
