Well it's heady days for Melbourne with new routes everywhere:

Emirates to fly daily to/from Kuala Lumpur from Feb 1!
Malaysian Airlines have already commenced direct flights to/from Jakarta
Qatar Airways has commenced the daily direct flights to/from Doha
V Australia to start twice weekly, direct flights to Johannesburg from Mar 13.
Even Tiger are commencing flights to Brisbane from March 28.

And Sydney's Airline, Qantas, have started the new route to..........oh well, maybe we'll get something next year.

Well MEL is getting the A380 with QF for 2 days a week from MEL-LHR (via SIN) lol....

And Jetstar have MEL-BKK and MEL-DPS (excl Trans-tasman), so many options!!
JQ new routes SYD-NAN

This is at the expense of a direct service to Dubai. It will now be making a stop in KL in each direction.

OK, but the non-stop option to DXB departing Melbourne at 2.55am will still exist. The KL option is a great result, especially for open jaw and other multi-city itineraies. In the past, I've always had to take that KUL-SIN shuttle to reconnect with the EK flight home.
