Hi guys... Im looking for a flight to go from LAX-MEL vv. I have enough points for one way DJ, one way QF. I am trying to find QF flights LAX-MEL on the 29th of July. Now the issue is that this flight is wide open on EF but not on QF (where i actually need to book it!) Is this a normal occurence or am i seeing something wierd?

QF provide increased availability to status pax and its possible you can see on EF classics only available to SG and above, I can see availability on QF26.

If you are looking at a classic award, what matters is if there are any seats available in the award bucket. Just did a search and there is award availability in economy on that date as a Gold FF (on QF26).

For economy awards, if EF shows X available, the award should be available to any OneWorld FF member, including QF Bronze and Silver members.

I don't know what EF displays, but I thought that gold/platinum redemptions were in a subclass of X (i.e. not all X is equal).

In my experience redeeming AA awards on QF flights, X means award redemption is available. In my experience redeeming QF awards as a Platinum and Gold status member, they may be available to such status members even when X is not available.

I'm a NB according to QF so that may be the issue - I can see 9 of PE/J/F on the flights but can't see the same on QF. I'll keep searching, it seems this trip has been shifted back now so it may not be pertinent but I'll keep looking. I guess there's always a push to get to WP in 2 weeks and then look ;)

In which buckets? All that matters when looking for an award flight is how many are available in the apporpriate award class (e.g. X for economy). There can be 9 on everything else, but if nothing is available in the award classes then you won't see anything available.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
