This may seem like a silly question, but I looked around and couldn't find the answer by myself.

Basically I was brought up in Hong Kong and my parents still live there, so they've always used the Marco Polo Club through Cathay Pacific and up until last year I was using it too. As I'm in Australia at university and spending more time flying around here, QF seems like a better idea.

So I have signed my sister up for QF too as she's under 18 and cannot enrol for Marco Polo Club. They have a policy that you have to be 18 (even though she's flying on an adult ticket). She has Asia Miles, but that doesn't really offer much and QF does seem more worthwhile (she's at school here and will most likely go to university here too).

Long winded intro there.

My question relates to her CX ticket. I believe the ticket class/version is M.

Code:
SUN 19APR DEP HONG KONG INTL 1250 CX 157 NON-STOP
              TERMINAL 1 ECONOMY (M) AIRBUS 340-300
          ARR BRISBANE INTL 2320 CONFIRMED 08HR 30MIN

In the QF Terms (can't post link as I have fewer than 10 posts), at the bottom of the page they list an M ticket as discount economy, but say underneath that status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes. Does this mean she would earn 30 SC (discount economy) or 60 SC (economy)?

And as for points earned, are they cut in half?

It confuses me.

Any help would be appreciated.

M is a discount economy class, so you will earn SC and the number will be 30.
The miles are not that great but the SC's are same as dscount economy on even QF.

QF site is not fully available for me soo i cant tell you the miles earnt, its not 1 for 1, it will be less but i am not sure how much less.

In most all cases you earn the best miles from the home carrier program but if you do fly a lot the QF can be useful for lounge access if you can get to gold.
I looked at the CX programs (I live in Singapore) but i decided i was still better with Qantas with all my QF and BA flights to Europe.

M class on CX is classed as discount economy and the base earning rate is 0.5 QFF points.

Qantas - Airline Earning Table

So for HKG-BNE she should earn 30 SCs and 2,152 QFF points....

It certainly seems like earning through Asia Miles would be better, but she can't earn any sort of status with Asia Miles. Kind of caught between a rock and a hard place I guess.

I don't know much about Asia Miles but as Evan mentioned earlier most of the time it could be beneficial to credit to the FF program of the carrier one intends to fly the most.
