Hey everyone,
I'm quite new to the Frequent Flyer arena, so excuse me if this is a basic question.
I'm wanting to fly to Athens in June/July next year and have found that it is cheaper to book directly through Etihad rather than through Virgin even though it is for the exact same flights. Just wanted to know if I would still earn points if I booked directly through Etihad rather than through Virgin. Also, is SYD-AUH-ATH considered 2 separate flights (i.e. will i earn status credits individually or combined), or are they considered to be one flight.
Thanks for the help.

Welcome stevier95 - check the class of airfare that you are booking, not all classes with EY earn points and status credits. If its a class that earns points and status credits then you will earn them as 2 separate flights.... SYD-AUH and then AUH-ATH. Hope this helps.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Just one more question - if a friend (not a family member) and I are travelling together on the same flights, am I able to claim the points and status credits since she is not a member of Velocity and she isn't interest in becoming one?

You could possibly do this through family pooling, but this would take a few steps and might not quite be within the VFF T&Cs depending on your circumstances.

Family pooling will let a designated person (in this case, you) to receive the SC and FF points that are collected by those pooling with you - in this case your friend. You would both need to be members, and be living at the same address. Also refer to clause 13.2 (d):

(d) The Beneficiary Account and Contributing Accounts must be held by Members of a family living at the same residential address.

Provided you fall under the "family" umbrella, I expect you should be fine and there will no doubt be a decent earn if the EY flights are eligible. I understand that this is not strictly policed by VA, but can exercise discretion if it feels a family pool is not within the spirit of the rules.

Thanks WLG - will hopefully get around 20k points and enough SC's to attain silver then :)
