Hi,

I'm new to this whole points earning and status thing. Have a couple of return flights for my wife and I coming up from Darwin to Tokyo on Silk Air/Singapore in full fair economy (H class). The flights were booked directly through Singapore Airlines. From what I've been reading it sounds like I could earn Velocity points and status on these flights. Is that correct? I currently have my KrisFlyer number assigned to the flights, is it as simple as ringing Singapore Airlines and asking them to change it to my Velocity number?

Also how exactly do you work out how many status credits you will earn on flights based on their number of miles? Is there a destination calculator at all? We have set up family pooling so my wife's points and credits go to my account. Hopefully with the aim of being silver or gold by the end of the year. Have several international flights to make.

Thanks,

David

Here is my recent Silk Air HKT-SIN from my Velocity statement:

Processed: 30 Dec 15 Activity: 29 Dec 15 coughet-Singapore SQ5051 20 SC 607 (Points)

You should be able to log on to your Krisflyer account and put in your Velocity number yourself, or change that to the points crediting option. Regarding Family Pooling, the precise same number of SCs and Points pooled to me from that flight out of my wife's Velocity account. Nice to see it processed so quickly. Contrast that with points from Etihad flights - often they take a full month to hit your account.

Thanks for that. Checked my KrisFlyer account and I can't see anywhere to put my Velocity number in other than the section for transferring points. Might have to ring them.

Ok thanks. Just called them and they are calling me back. Hopefully it can be changed...

So I found the virgin mileage calculator. Singapore to Tokyo is 3312 miles. The calculator doesn't work for Darwin to Singapore for some reason, but google says it is 2083 miles. The 2 flights are separate flight numbers, and the same for return. The velocity status table says full fare economy for 1501-3000 miles is 40 credits and 3001-5000 is 60 credits. Will I therefore receive 100 status credits between Darwin to Tokyo and then the same for return? For a total of 200 credits per person? 400 on my account with my wife's pooling? If so, that is awesome. Already have 50 status credits on my account. 500 is all that is needed for gold and 4 eligible sectors?

Hopefully someone can answer that as I need to know as well - my parents are BNE-SIN-CDG in J on SQ later this year and I want to organise Family Pooling from one to another so one makes Gold.

Just got a call back from Singapore airlines. They've added my velocity number to the account. The guy started off saying the silk air flights aren't eligible but I said it clearly states on Virgins website that they are. He says he has added our numbers to all legs so we will see how we go.. Hope it all goes smoothly and I don't end up having to do a points/status claim..

Anyone able to confirm my question about the number of status credits?

Silk Air flights are eligible for VA status credit, the people at SQ often aren't the brightest. I have earn SC and points on Silkair flights SIN-USM and also family pooling. When you checkin make sure your boarding pass has your VA number on it just in case

SIN-Tokyo will earn 60SC & approx 3,312 points each way, Darwin-Sin will earn 40SC & approx 2207 points. So with family pooling that will mean 200SC & 5,519

Remeber though that these won't count as eligible sectors and you will still need to meet that requirement before your gold status is attained.
