Earn Elite nights when booking through Qantas Hotels?

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone knows if your Bonvoy status is recognised and if you earn Elite nights when you book through Qantas Hotels?

I've read online that OTA bookings may not have status acknowledged nor eligible for earn. I have a lot of credit in Qantas Hotel vouchers (thanks covid) and hope to use them. Not accessing status benifits however, might make me save them for non Marriott stays.

Anyone have any experience?

I've only used Qantas hotels a couple of times but my understanding is no hotel status benefits.
Not sure how the Accor partnership will work out but suspect it will be similar (if you want status benefits book direct).
Bookings via Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts or a Virtuoso travel agent will usually keep status benefits

No experience with Bonvoy and QF but have booked with other chains via QF e.g. Hilton, Shangri-La and others, the nights did not count, no points, and in most cases my status was not recognised (no benefits) QF hotels is just another aggregator. Most hotel programs are the same as in you need to book directly with the hotel or through the rewards program.

Thanks for the replies. Late '23 expiry on my vouchers so I'll keep them for stays where I have no benifits anyway.

Glad I did some research. It would have been an unfortunate surprise.

Best to use the QF Hotels vouchers on non-chain hotels.

I'm starting to think better to ignore Qantas Hotels altogether. I only booked this time because of the $50 points club voucher. Previously they had the habit of locking out my credit cards for no apparent reason making it impossible to book until you rang up and unlocked them.

Previously they also always wanted their money up front. They now have a "deal" whereby you are charged an upfront amount (in my case about 18%) and pay the balance 7 days prior. Better but still not as good as booking.com and all the others when there is no prepayment in many cases.

However, when I tried to extend my partly paid stay I was told can't be done and you have to pay the balance as well as the extra night in full. Hmmm

Then I look at my credit card account and I've been charged the balance and then twice for the second night. WTF?

Fired off a narky email and after this it's time to bid hooroo to hooroo.com. My recommendation is "AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE"

I think that is a pretty fair rant.

I had a lot of Qantas hotel bookings in early 2020* and because we had such a set itinerary we didn't need any flexibility. We thought the few 1000 pts we'd earn would be worth it.

To their credit, refunds and vouchers were offered proactively and quickly when the world changed. We took vouchers because we scored 1000 pts extra per booking.

Now however I'm finding it difficult to find a case where I want to use the vouchers. Limited personal travel and now having high Bonvoy status makes the economics of where I want to stay and how I want to book different.

I think when I burn through the vouchers I probably won't be likely to book with Qantas Hotels again.

I don't have much skin in the game with Qantas Hotels but do have 2 x $100 Points Club Plus vouchers.

My strategy is to use these for single-room short stays where they aren't any Accor, Marriott or Hilton properties which appeal for either redemption, status benefits, or points earning opportunities.

For longer stays or multi-room bookings I'd prefer to book through Hotels.com for the status nights + 10% value accumulation.
