On Thursday I came home to a wine delivery. Upon opening the cases, I noticed that everything was very dusty. These are current release wines (only on the market a few months).

Is this something which would concern you?

My hypothesis is that this wine was simply stored for a short time in a particularly dusty warehouse space, but it does trigger the age old concern about provenance and storage conditions. Would you be worried? Any other Thoughts?

It would probably depend on who the vendor is...

Maybe worth sending a photo to the vendor asking about the storage conditions etc - they may not be aware that the wine is arriving in that condition

Good idea - I might do that.

I assume you meant provenance?!

Western Australian dust from Margaret River may not be too much of a problem. I did get a bottle of red from that region that had the grit inside the bottle. The vineyard replaced it so I was happy.

Response received (in a very timely manner).

Dear penegal,

Thank you so much for your email. I understand your concern, and thank you for taking the time to send me through photos. The reason behind the dust is due to our new bottling line being installed. They blocked off the hallway once they realised dust was being funnelled by the wind down into dispatch, so there was only a window of about 10 minutes where some bottles were affected. The team were to clean everything before sending them, and I am not sure how yours managed to not be, and I apologise for this. The wine will not be affected, and the dust should easily wipe off the bottles. However, if you would like me to recall your wines and resend the order again, please just let me know.

I apologise again, and thank you for getting in touch with us. I shall be feeding this back to dispatch.

Kind regards,
VF Rep

Not a fan of the Heytesbury?

haha, I certainly am a fan, but this order was a "smaller" one. I am trying to be more "restrained" at the moment.

This was mostly the cheaper stuff for everyday drinking.
