Hi Ladies and Gents

My sister is going to Europe on a work trip (paid for my her work) and it is in Y. The flight is a paid ticket, booked via Air France SYD-SIN-CDG-NCE-CDG-SIN-SYD.

The SYD-SIN sectors are on QF metal, but with an AF flight code. I called Qantas and asked them if I could use my QFF points to upgrade her ticket (I knew they would say no, but thought I'd ask anyway as I have QF P1 Status) so the only other option I see would be to book her a separate booking NCE-CDG-SIN-SYD using my QFF in J or F (one way)

My question: If she travels the first sector to Europe in Y, and upon her return check-in at NCE, will Air France see a duplicate booking and void either of her tickets? I obviously don't want to waste a heap of QFF points if this is against any rules that I am not aware of. Any other advice/tips/ or any information you can suggest or make me aware of?

Another alternative would be to book her a reward flight from NCE-DXB-SYD on EK, or NCE-DOH-SYD on QR, however my concern is if she "no-shows" for the return leg of the paid AF ticket, will this cause any issues?

Thank you in advance for your assistance

There's nothing really wrong with forfeiting the return portion of a booking but certain airlines have been known to cancel duplicate bookings. This may not be the case here.

Can she check with her work's travel provider and have the Qantas segments booked on a QF code instead?

I would be very careful about having separate bookings on the same flights. Is it possible to book a different itinerary from NCE via LHR using your Qantas points?

Two issues here - one is the duplicate booking. Airlines can cancel one of them, and may not give you the option of which one. It's likely they'd cancel the FF ticket as cancelling the paid one can have implications...

Cancelling the return of the paid ticket allows the airline to reassess the fare, calculating the full one way fare for travel already undertaken. This could result in the company being charged a hefty fee for the 'new ticket'.

Thank you MEL_Traveller, I sincerely appreciate your feedback.

Not a lot you can do if the tickets have already been issued without significant unintended consequences as detailed above. Bear in mind its your sister's employer paying for the ticket. Sometimes its better not to meddle with an employer's travel booking practices especially when its not your employer.

(a) change flight number but keep in same booking
She could ask employer's tavel agent for the QF operated segments to be changed to QF flight numbers with her covering any change fee and difference in fare. AF has a Y fare that
I believe AF generally does not sell QF Flight numbers This may then require the booking to be split. A travel agent might be able to avoid this.

(b) split booking, reissue SYD-SIN, SIN-SYD sectors
This may be possible however I suspect any refund on the SYD-SIN/SIN-SYD will be low nil or negative, depending on the fare construct.
Additionally as QF and AF do not interline, any consequences/liability of flights delays at SIN are additionally carried by your sister/employer rather than AF

(c) 2nd booking with QF SYD-SIN and return
QF will see the same passenger in their same systems having 2 bookings and will therefore raise a query and likely cancel the FF before the flights.

(d) cancel booking reissue only SIN-CDG-NCE return and sister covers QF SYD-SIN and return

Best to see the employer's travel agent who originated the ticket
Ive heard AF charging $400 to change a confirmed booking
