Would have been terrible to witness this, NT News are reporting a light aircraft has crashed with two fatalities. I am not sure why the focus is on the RAAF side given its a shared facility and a civil aircraft.

According to the local news the aircraft was an Air North E120 on a training flight.

Always a sad time.

Possibly the RAAF connection is because it was on the RAAF golf course.

I often wonder though when something like a Metroliner is defined as a light plane :!:

That makes sense Straitman, the wreckage is on the RAAF base side of the airport, SMH is now confirming the E120:

Two dead in Darwin air crash

My thoughts are with the family of the crew who have passed away and also with those who witnessed the incident and aftermath.

Very tragic indeed. I don't know why this kind of training isn't done in the sim in MEL as the risk doing this stuff in an aircraft IMHO is far greater than what could happen in a real situation.

A senseless waste of life of two terrific people.

RIP VH-ANB.

Oz :( :(

I am sure the questions will be asked why the training could not have been done in the Melbourne SIM , given the aftermath of the Skippers EMB120 accident with aggresive roll and left yaw being experienced following the port engine failure on that aircraft.
