We recently got our family 4 x Y Ticket on sale with CX to HKG and NRT This October for a very good price of under $700 AUD each . I have enough points for 4 x J ticket and thinking of booking one via Y and return with points . To my surprise 4 x Y one-way ticket cost more than the return ticket with all 4 legs

I am have never travel in J with CX before and really want to have the experience together with J lounge in HKG ( i heard is very good ) .

My question is could we drop a segment and book in J with points to enjoy at least 1 flight segment in Business Class .
our travel iti
SYD - HKG stop over 5 days
HKG - NRT - my main aim is for this leg as i know i can get 4 x J ticket with CX via Qantas Points for about 35k points each ticket and together we can enjoy the lounge experience at HKG before our flight to Japan . not sure it will affect our return flight if we no-show for this leg with our Y ticket .
return ticket
NRT - HKG ( 2 hours transit ) - SYD - Looking at this segment booking via Points with Japan Airlines in J for a direct fly home ( better for the kids ) but not sure if we have enough points for 4 people , as this is the end segment i don't think we have any problem not showing up

Thanks everyone

HKG-NRT usually has the CX REGIONAL J product while HKG-HND usually has the proper longhaul product.
