Has anyone noticed this ?
It is pretty much across the fleet or some planes/routes are more affected than others ?
Which routes/flight numbers have the newest planes (less likely to have droopy beds, etc)?

Does this also happen on other airlines' flatbeds and is general wear/tear an acceptable excuse ?
What do others think ?

Cheers.

it's been widely discussed and there are some solutions... someone familiar with them will be able to share.

I've never experienced it on any other airline... but most full flats don't rely entirely on the seat itself... they have some sort of fixed element for the feet (shelf, ottoman, ledge, cubby).

I have never been particularly happy with the QF Skybed MkII. I have definitely experienced the droop.*

*Obviously I don't travel as much as many here so have limited experience.

I recently flew on a QF A380 in F, SYD-LAX and LAX-MEL and didn't notice any droop in the bed. :D

Lol but you were in F :p I'm talking about the J seats.

Oh. Sorry about that.

Anyway, I did, as the QF website says,

"Experience a new level of inflight comfort as you stretch out in your fully flat, extra-wide bed. Our Bedding Down service features luxurious pillows, blankets, a duvet as well as a sheepskin mattress".

It seems the 'end' of the bed of Skybed Mk2 that extends out and up when put into bed mode has some parts that bend if stressed too much.

As a result you can end up with that last 18" sagging while the rest of the bed is flat.

It's the first I have come across a report of a foldable support being provided for crew - other references have included putting one rollabord underneath for additional support.

Indeed..but absolutely and irrefutably irrelevant to the question at hand.

Just last week did SYD LAX SYD on the A380 in J. Definitely the beds are dropping. On SYD LAX leg, in fact the bed was dropping at an angle and sideways too. If you ever lift the cushion portion of the seat you will see how thin the cushions are and cane see the motor actuators etc. these beds are definitely starting to show their age. Qantas should lift the product offering compared to Emirates and SQ

It's been a long time since I drank alcohol but how do you get it to stay in the upside down glass? ;)

Tattinger QF127 now

Not too droopy not yet any way

Having slept on my first Skybed Mk II a couple of weeks ago, I have to confess not feeling the "droop". And for someone quite portly, I thought I should be the most likely to feel it. And I certainly wasn't knocked out by alcohol or terribly tired (just wanted to sleep to get some rest).

That said, my style of sleeping on the seat (applies to Skybed Mk I) is to shift myself so I'm as flush to the top of the seat as possible, then reduce the length of the bed so that I just fit. This minimises the amount of "free hanging" extension at the end of the seat, which minimises the effect. For Skybed Mk I, I also find this means I don't experience the whole "slipping down" sensation oft described by critics of the seat.

My height - a mere 175 cm - does make it somewhat easy to get away with it in this fashion, however.

I've heard that after too much alcohol you may get the droop.

But on a plane? There goes the chance for the mile high club.
